VM 36 or VM38?

Anyone run VMs on a Ducati?
I'm looking at the engine tune of my DIY Scrambler based on an M750. I am considering modifying the stock, long manifolds to still have most of their length, but be able to run horizontal VM round slide carbs and K&N pod filters with outer covers. I will run a stock motor to use any fuel available out in the boonies. The purpose is to avoid all carb freezing and have a very simple and accessible intake set up. The bike will be the 2 up bike, holiday/adventure bike and the winter/wet riding bike. The bike will be used on dirt roads and easy trails as well as rough back roads so I figure the VMs will work well in those environments. Question is, will they work on an L twin?
Brand new VM 36/38s are $154 each here with good support. I have mates that can cut n shut the long manifolds to be "long mallossi" in style and clear the frame spars. I want torque and response up to the 75-80mph range max and don't care after that. The m750s I'm looking at have stock CV carbs with oil bypass heating to the float bowls. I wrap the manifolds in exhaust insulation and fit an oil cooler cover which works well to a prevent carb freezing except for when riding through thick mist in very cold temps. Otherwise carb freezing is extremely rare. Would the oil heating kit and my current mods do the trick or should I just give up and get slide carbs in regards to robust simplicity for riding in crap weather and out in the boonies. Will VM 36 carbs give me that midrange punch over the 38s in a 750. I have tuned these carbs on old Japanese race bikes but never a Ducati.

Hmmm VM 36 makes me think thumper/snowmobile. Yeah, I know they have been used on I4s. I wonder if anyone ever did this on an Elephant?

They have used 38s and 44s on older Harley's too. I guess they won't freeze up if they work on snowmobiles

TM36/38 are 220 each. Anyone tried these?
The national Mikuni distributor said I would be "underwhelmed" by the VMs technology. FCR's will cost the price of a bargain M750 so these TMs are an option too. Cheapest option is getting the oem carb heater kit on BDST38's to actually work.
