2007 S4RS Black Termis

« on: August 20, 2018, 03:23:48 PM »

The bike hasn't had a lot of use in the last few years as I have been traveling for work. I even had it shipped up to Portland OR for a while thinking i would be able to get some riding in but it rains a lot there

Anyway the bike always used to start with just a touch of the starter button, now it will go through a complete cycle of trying to start until the ECU times out, then starts on the second try. Hot - Cold same problem

Battery is always on a trickle charger, recently changed the plugs but that did not help

I am afraid i have gunked up the injectors from the lack of use -

Is there anything i can do to trouble shoot?
thanks
Dan

Since the bike has been sitting a while i would suspect either a fuel quality issue, battery or both.

Battery is easy, fully charge it and have it load tested.  Fuel?  Empty tank, while you are in there, new filter.  A new set of spark plugs might help too.  It may take a tank or two to see results.  Some Techron or Seafoam is a good idea too, but no more than recommended.  Still not good?  Post back and we will talk diagnostics.

Mine never starts first time from cold when it’s been stood even for just a week. It doesn’t time out on the starting cycle, but cranks over a few times and sort of wheezes and gives up. Then the rest of the day it’s good as gold.
I changed the starter sprag ( one way clutch)about 4000 mles ago because it wouldn’t engage and start.
Whats the mileage on yours? Mines on 16000 miles.
