It does sit the headlight pretty far out from the interior of the bucket, that was by design, so the secondary ring could have the space needed to capture the LED housing, and allow the spring clips to have enough tension still.  It might work as-is, with the spring clips bent inwards, but I haven't tested it that way. 

Do you happen to have the STL for the secondary ring that goes on the back?
