You make a good point. The 999, although not stunningly beautiful like its sister's, gained acceptance by achieving what it was born to do.
.
In race trim they look pretty good.

I thought the 999/749 was a badass piece of kit right from the jump. I can’t say the same for the Monster.

I think the 999 model was completely overshadowed by the beauty of the 916 line. Tough act to follow...

I wonder how the hell they make such important decisions. Seems random. The 999 was obviously (?) designed to break away from the 916 design which would have held them back, sooner or later...
Fast forward to this Monster, designed to be a modern version of Galuzzi's master piece...
How hard can it be? Use all the designers they have on their contact list. Let them drink and play for weeks. Old and young. Have them fight it out. Make a proper drawing. Maybe even a clay model. More drinking and fighting. Show it to the target group. Double check with us old farts.
Quality decision.

Maybe Ducati has the same "never go back" attitude that Toyota has?
For better or worse.

After seeing this, I’m extremely disappointed the ‘03 and ‘10 aren’t in the stable anymore. Should’ve picked up the used 1200M that was at Newport about 2 months ago. Guess I’ll stick with the Scrambler until I find a Dark SF.

SheMonster had a Dark 749. That bike was so sexy (well, the rider enhanced it a bit too).
I would still take one though over some of these newer Duc models.

Hi all...it's been a (long) while since I have posted on here. I'm still racking up miles on my '08 S2R1K and I bought a 2012 1098S Streetfighter a couple of years ago that is a blast to ride (my local Ducati dealer owner calls it a "Street Thug"
)
As for the 2021 Monster, to put it simply, it looks like ass and is an insult to the Monster legacy. It's just so weird; trellis frames are appearing on Japanese bikes and the Indian FTR while this new Monster looks like a Yamaha. Just pitiful.
If there is anyone in the Hampton Roads/Richmond area who wants to get together for a ride when the weather warms up, just let me know. I hope all of you are safe and well, and all the best for the new year!

Hi everyone. It has been many years since I have been active on here. Fell in love with monsters back in 2001 and bought my first street bike, a 2001 m750 20 years ago. Loved it, rode it for quite some time, then upgraded to an 04’ s4r. Had a few others since then. Just purchased a new-to-me 2018 monster 1200r. I felt like it held faithful to the monster that I fell in love with from the start. The 2021 monster looks just blah. Plain, unremarkable, forgettable, boring, bland. There is nothing that excites me. I have been admiring the same basic design concepts on the monster for 20 years. It still looks striking and beautiful. Until this point felt Ducati had done a great job of simply refining the original. Now? I have no desire to own the new design and am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the 2018 model.
