now if there was just a fix for not being able to hit the start button in a "false" neutral condition...

Do this happen enough to you that you need the fix? If so I would fix that instead.
I generally hold the clutch in anyways as I am starting the bike, just as a habit.

personally, i don't start the bike unless i'm on it and mostly able to react if something like that happened. i've just seen friends do it before, hit the button while on the kickstand, and it's a scary thing to hit the start button with that stepper action...it keeps turning over even though it's not actually in neutral.

Never had a "false neutral" in that sense. You mean that the light is on and not actually in neutral?

I pop it in neutral before I back it into the garage, so I never worry about starting it then. Any time I'm out and about though, it's a different story. If i really need to let it warm up for a bit, I'll clutch in and gently releas the clutch (under full brake) after it's started. I've had it barely catch on a gear (not sure if it was first or second) when I puched the starter and it is pretty scary to have the bike lurch uncontrollably while I'm on it.
