Hi all,

New Monster owner here.  Been wanting a Ducati for a loooong time so I finally pulled the trigger last August.  Can't keep the grin off my face from all the fun this bike is!  Really loving it so far...  I do have one issue, and I think it is common from what I've read online.  The fuel gauge quit working so the dash display shows empty and the idiot light flashes at all times.  I know I could take it back to the dealer for a warranty fix but 1.)  my dealer is 95 miles away and 2.) they will just replace it with the same faulty designed part.  I don't trust the fuel gauge anyway and always reset/use my trip meter to know when I need gas so I'd like to just add a resistor to the fuel sending unit wiring harness connector to trick it into reading FULL at all times. 

My question is has anybody has done this before?  Any insight?  My plan is to address this when I have to pull the tank for service and I'll probably just cut and re-use the sending unit connector and solder in a resistor.  My biggest concern is determining the correct resistor to use...

What's wrong with going 95 miles? Isn't that the point with a new bike?

Small job, so it won't take too long. Get tires while you're there.

No real problem with the 95 miles---I'm more concerned that the stock part will just fail again.  As for tires, i already mounted a new one.  Judging by the first one, I've already burned up 25% of its life...   Grin

There's a chance they upgraded the part or changed supplier, maybe. Grin It must be annoying for sure and hard to ignore. Any info from the dealer on the part being revised, or is it just pot luck? I'd like to know who makes Ducati's fuel senders because they've been crap for thirty years! laughingdp.

I`ve done something similar on my carb 900 when having made a dash w LED idiot lights, think its doable on an EFI also,
its just a float device in there, too.
It was a big resistor, someone w more knowledge than me calculated it but sorry, l don't remember how...

Still on warranty?  Replace it.  My '01 Monster failed during warranty and was replaced.  The replacement was still working when I sold the bike 13 years and 8X,XXX miles later,

206-0   4W
56R  5%

Wired in parallell over earth & signal from float.
