Marc Marquez is to step back from the 2022 MotoGP World Championship after the Italian Grand Prix to undergo a fourth operation on his problematic right arm.

The decision, announced after qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, has been made due to ongoing struggles with the upper arm bone he fractured in 2020.

Marquez will travel to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota on Tuesday, May 31 for surgery, under the direction of Dr. Joaquin Sánchez Sotelo. He will then return to Spain to begin his recovery.

Great day of racing at Mugello. Wild finish in Moto3. Joe Roberts had a great 2nd place finish (he was smooth today) in Moto2. Bagnaia was the class of the field today. Zarco brought the Pramac Ducati home in 4th, flying the new livery.

Fantastic track and a lot of great and close racing. Close, but tidy. I don't like that MM is hurt, but I like that we don't have to hold our breath when he does his idiot passes.
