On a slow speed downshift my chain master link separated causing the chain to whip the engine block! Oil immediately started draining out of a 1” x 1/2” hole on the engine block.

It doesn’t seem repairable due to lack of surface area.

I’m considering swapping in a new motor.

It’s been hard to find info and options hopefully this amazing forum can help!

It’s a 2004 monster 800ie  and I’m wondering what other models would have the same mounts?

Also please educate me on ecu/guage cluster/key etc . .. will I be able to use my existing  working bits for the new engine?

Is there an available  product to eliminate some of the wiring issues/amount?

Any other hope or avenues will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks again!

If this was ten years ago you'd already have nicely used engine cases, but they are becoming rare.

Leaving out the 600 and 620.... 750 carb and ie, 800, 900, 1000 from SS and Monster 1000 and S2R, 1100 with mods, 1100 EVO with mods, S4R (996) with frame mods and S4RS (999) with frame mods. The engine bolt holes are more or less universal (smaller diameter on bikes a little bit later than yours)

You'll be able to use your excisting ECU++ on everything up to, and including 1000 engines. The 1100 too. S4R/S are not equal (enough) I believe.

Wiring issues?

Not all of this is plug and play. The closer you stick to what you have, the easier it will be. Like with the exhaust for example. Help is not THAT available as it was ten years ago, but we'll try waytogo

I’ll add to get yourself the JPDiag software to crack your ecu. This will open the door to using any other engine as mentioned above. I’m planning on doing this to swap an 1100 or evo engine into my S2R.

A 1000 DS motor would be a nice swap, but you'll need pipes to suit. Probably as much chance of finding one as an 800ie motor. A total reflash of the ECU to suit too but motors sometimes come with looms and ECUs attached. The tuning possibilities from there are fun. Intake mods, tuning , light clutch parts (dry clutch). It would be one of the most fun rides available.  High torque and low weight. I can't remember if they share the same ECU, but the ignition map is key with a dual spark motor, besides adding fuel.
With a motor with a swingarm and wheel attached its easier. Prop it up on blocks and under engine stand with the wheel fitted like a Tron bike and lower the frame onto it. Iirc, they share the ST based Monster frame with 12mm motor to frame bolts.
It would be a nice upgrade to a big block.

Thanks for the input! I’m searching like a madman ! Really limited results coming back.

Any good salvage collectors that could have an engine would be worth calling!

Please send me any leads if anyone remembers, I’m committed to getting her rolling again!

Check with the vendor that the UK motor is a straight swap into your frame. It may be a Multistrada motor and I can't recall if it is a straight swap. There were models that had variations in the width of the cases where the swingarm pivots.
