Well, I sold my 800 last year and have been pining for another one. Found one local for only about $5K, it's an 07 with about 16K on it. Stock pipes and in need of a rear shock. I've read some reviews but thought I would put it to the Monster braintrust. Should I pull the trigger on this bike?

Have someone check it out with you.  It is easy to fool yourself.  Also, last time the timing belts were changed, brake fluid too.  Service records?

With that mileage it has had periods with no/little use and no/little TLC. Things will happen. "Things" cost money. Suddenly 5K isn't cheap any longer. It might still be a sensible purchase though.

Fork rebuild. Brake pads. Fluids all around. New/used shock. Full (!) service. Gaskets. O-rings. Seals. Tires (?). Wiring dry/brittle? Chain? Even if you're super lucky and can skip half of this, it's still quite a lot more than 5. Worth it? Maybe :)

Pay 3 and spend 2-3.

Has full service records. This guy has only had it about 9 months. Starts right up. He said he's changed all the fluids, they look good. Brand new tires and I think chain. New belts as well. It will need an aftermarket exhaust and likely a rear shock.

Ok - that's a bit better, but I'd still advice to prepare for more repairs. Surprises are always negative for the ownership experience.

Thanks for all the advice. I rode it home this afternoon.

I know that you love your, but I'd core a stock exhaust before I put one of those on...just sayin' [evil] :-*

I did that for the first year I had the bike, sort of. Got rid of the shotgun pipes and ran it with the udder. WAY too loud. Felt like I had a concussion after a ride.

Way different running an udder, as opposed to a QuatD. I can sympathize.

I just don't like the sound of the QuatD, or D&D cans.

Give me Termi's, Ducati Performance, or Akrapovic.

To Blackout...Look in to Akrapovic. Seems they might have something.
