What an amazing find!
«

I'm referring, of course, to this forum!
This is my first official post- my apologies, but I don't own a Ducati... yet. I'm down to two humble Japanese dirt/dual-sport bikes after recently selling my favorite old (extensively modified) Honda F4i in favor of something more comfortable, but not necessarily less sporting. I've been riding since the 1960s, so I wouldn't exactly call myself a beginner... I spent a lot of time on a motocross track in my youth, and a bit of time on a road track, but mostly driving Porsche's. I have a '66 Porsche that's been properly bastardized, and a BMW roadster, so I'm not unfamiliar with "nicer" transportation brands... which brings me to...
Here!
I'm
nearly
convinced that I
need
a '12-ish Monster 1100 evo, so here I am, seeking the inside scoop on what to expect... thank you for your collective knowledge and expertise- I've been duly impressed with y'all with what I've read here so far, and I know there's VOLUMES I haven't even discovered yet. One day I hope to be as helpful as you've been already!

Welcome
The 1100Evo is the pinnacle of desmodue development. It is the most powerful 2 valve air-cooled Ducati motor and always will be due to advancing emissions laws. The 1100 motor was running out of time so Ducati went to town on the final version of it. The current 1100 Scrambler is very detuned in comparison.
It's special.

Welcome
You need an 1100. Especially when living in Portland.

LOL! I think I saw a sign at the edge of town that said "1100 required"! I must say that the 848 streetfighter has also caught my eye- it's gorgeous too, but it just doesn't have "that look". I also have an XR600 sitting in my garage, so I clearly have a thing for those old air-cooled beasts.
I suppose I should mention that I'm 6'2" and about 230# with a 33" inseam... I'm a bit concerned that the 1100 might be a tad cramped (I opened up my old F4i quite a bit with adjustable rearsets and apex clipons), but I'll find out for sure when I can carve out time to get my butt on one. I went to MotoCorsa a couple weeks ago and sat on one of the aluminum-framed Monsters, and it felt okay on the showroom floor.

I'm one size larger/longer than you and felt fine on a 796 once. My S2R is longer seat to bars though. I like seeing some of the bike I'm on. Also enjoy the far better aeros. Try the 1100

Got it! Meet my "new to me" 2010 Monster 1100:
The sound while riding is intoxicating, but I don't think the neighbors are going to appreciate the exhaust note as much as I do, so I'll be looking to add some dB killers...

Sorry (neighbours) on Ducatis we're not adding weight, only removing.

LOL! Do I get a pass if I add the dB killers but replaced the lead-acid battery with a Shorai lithium-iron battery?

If they insist on you buying Db-killers, you demand they pay for the battery.
