S2R1K new shock

I have a 999 Showa in my S2R1K but the gas bladder is shot and empty and needs a full rebuild. Instead of that though, some options on the table are: Matris, Ohlins and a Penske.
Penske seems like overkill but Ohlins and Matris are both in the $700 range whereas the penske double is double. I believe the "recommended" Matris is a single adjustable where the ohlins is double. Looking for some recommendations on which route to go.
The wildcard option is that I have also found a local Ohlins unit from a Hyper Motard but internet research shows that the HM unit is 10mm shorter and that seems like a no go off the bat. Thoughts?

I can't speak with first hand knowledge on the SR2 shock, but on the dual sidearm monsters the factory shock worked pretty well with the correct linear spring, but the lifespan of the chrome on the rod had a short life and no replacement was available. The cost of a new OEM was high enough to make an upgrade reasonable.

Buy what you want, but don't screw around with the wrong length shock.
I like the Ohlins on my bike.

Öhlins for S2R1K.
W spring for your weight and correctly adjusted, it disappears, it just work.
Had it on all my 3 Ducs, no regrets.

I no longer have my stock shock and rebuilding the current shock doesnt seem worth it to me at this point.
Ive got several options if going with Ohlins.Theres the "recommended" shock that is an OEM replacement, but theres also dropping in an Ohlins for the 999 that is the identical length, but has remote preload and reservoir.
Any advantages to having these for a street bike? Im not saying i can afford the best or need the best, but my goal with this bike is to make it "nice" within an affordable budget because all my other bikes are beat up.

The remote reservoir helps keep the oil cool. Remote preload is handy if you ride two up or often raise the rear for quicker handling. The OEM ohlins new is $2374.37. Is it a direct fit? Dunno. Ohlins only shows the STX46 and only for the 05s. Only $699, but no external reservoir and only preload and compression are adjustable. Where did you source the preload Ohlins

the preload Ohlins is apparently just an add on device to replace the double nuts. There are a few sites I saw that provided it as a drop down option. However I also saw a few used units on ebay/FB and some new units available overseas for about $1100. For that much, im not far from a Penske shock at $1400. Overkill much though?
I dont think i would be riding two up on this bike very much to need remote preload so that might just be unnecessary. As far as remote res. it sounds like its really about longevity of the oil during extremely high performance since you have more oil, and more ability to keep it from getting hot. Sounds like both arent things I could achieve anyway!

Here is a shock but the valving is more SBK oriented and spring rate is wrong, but it will fit:

Here is another but im not sure if its an OEM unit, modified OEM unit or a full aftermarket.

I'd go for the second one. The valving will be completely wrong on the SBK unit.
That said it's probably better than what you have.

The first doesn't fit. Not enough room for the reservoir. (I)(IRC)
My suggestion is based on the reasonable price for a second hand stock shock which makes it good value.
