I might do, the Putty's not really a 250cc bike road though...

I'd notify the rta / police asap

*cough* swap plates *cough*.

Does it look like it rattled loose or was removed maliciously? Try ringing your local RTA or copshop, if it fell off it may have been handed in. If it's been stolen I think the turnaround time for new plates is 21 days :(

'Sorry officer, what do you mean where is my numberplate? ..... oh shit, must have just happened ..... could have been .....'

Wouldn't take long to get one from a registry though would it (standard issue)?

Lucky it wasn't your front plate that came off! On second thoughts lucky it didn't come off when I was behind you.

I've lost a couple of rego labels in the past - gets expensive after a while. I think Andy lost his plate a while ago too (mine is currently held on with a cable tie), could be a bit like sticking throttle cables.

Be careful with cable ties, they become brittle and snap. I caught White Lions on a run south, his was just barely hangin' on.

Thanks Super. The cable tie is a back-up as the plate has cracked around the bolts - maybe its time for another cable tie.

Big, I was expecting someone to come on and say 'wouldn't have happened if you had chopped your tail'

Yes my number plate departed company from the bike during a ride through the Royal National Park. Just a couple of shredded bits of aluminium left under the bolt heads! I went up to the registry and they gave me a new number plate and printed a new rego label on the spot. You still have to pay even though its their plate that has failed....mine was not very old at all when it fatigued so I made sure the new plate is bolted on securerly with a bolt at each corner now.

Having ridden big singles most of the time,I have parted company with a few extraneous bits and pieces through metal fatigue. (anyone seen my gold filling?)
When you put the new one on big, put some screws in the bottom as well to reduce vibration, some blue tack ( no kidding) underneath will deaden the vibes as well, cheaper than using body deadener putty.

If you file a lost/stolen report with the Police, the RTA can issue a new plate on the spot + $35. - Chris
