Just FYI, I worked in an OR for a year. I saw 4 cases that were headed to the OR in one year that had to have rings cut off. And thats in a non trauma hospital.

Can't hurt to know the facts about a ring before you buy it. I don't have a problem with Ti rings, just letting you know what I saw in a year.

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

I might go Ti then. I'll shop around.

On a side note. I fcking HATE the 90% of the salespersons at the jewelery stores. Talk about high pressure sales. When I was shopping around for the engagement ring I had to be such a hard ass with these people. Oh and thanks for not helping buy that ring DML/F! cheap bastids!  ;D

Yes. Facts. They are marvelous things.

-Q: Are titanium rings easy to cut in case of emergency ?
A : Yes, they are. Even stronger titanium alloys can be cut without difficulty. We have performed some tests on a 6Al/4V ring with a basic (manual) ring cutter, and went through it in under 2 minutes. The hospital and paramedic issued ring cutters are usually electric, reducing the cutting time consequently.

What no one else already had $5 and an envelope handy? and I was all set to send it.

You could do the tail chop and just make part of the frame you cut off your ring.  Cheap as they come, and you don't even have to wait for Ducati branded wedding rings.

... I'm totally cool with my friends saying "You remember when William bit it?!  That was awesome!  How do you explode in a fireball while being crushed under a waterfall?!  I don't think I'll beat that..."

My metals professor in college made square rings for him and his wife for their nuptials.  I always thought it was just an iconoclastic thing until I asked, and he had me look at the shape of my finger (look "down the barrel" at your ring finger) - it is more square than round.  I tried it on, and it was pretty comfortable.  The ring that is.  Not the temporarily feeling like my professor's life partner.  Not that there's anything wrong with that...
So, square FTW.

Oh christ. I've heard thsi too many times before. How many times a year do ERs around the country need to actually cut off a wedding band? 6? 7? and if my finger is so make the beast with two backsed up that they need to actually cut off the ring to try to save it, I'm betting it's a goner anyway.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD REALIZE THAT YOU ARE NOT THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND STOP THE FEARMONGERING.

/can't even talk rings with out the worry warts chiming in/
//grumble grumble
///I hear motorcycles are less safe than SUVs too

usually the ER's only do it 6-7 times a year because we do most of the cutting off of the rings before they get to the ER

and we don;t have anything to cut off a Ti ring either...

Okay, another source:

How difficult is it to cut a ring off the finger?
Due to titanium's light weight, most jewelry made in this material, including rings, and continuous, closed jewelry products are thicker than their counterparts in gold and platinum. Cutting a titanium ring can be preformed with standard jewelry ring cutters, available throughout the industry. As in any cutting process, the quality and sharpness of cutting edge will determine the length of time required. Since titanium is thicker, stronger and harder than conventional materials, the cutting process will take a bit longer and often requires a second cut on the opposite side. It is also important to use lubricant while cutting, as this will speed up the process and prolong the cutter life We have tested a variety of standard ring cutters on rings 6 and 7 mm wide, and 2 ½ mm (.097") thick. The time required was between 5 and 7 minutes per cut, about twice the time it took to cut a 6mm 14k band under 2mm in thickness. We ran tests on aerospace grade 6-4 using the same process. The results were far different. After 5 minutes we barely penetrated the surface and the cutter edge showed significant wear.

Ti is strong. Not cut-proof. Especially the cheap grade you get in a $100 ring. I bet you could cut one if you have to.

Read my post again dear. I didn't say anything about the ER's ability to cut a Ti ring. I just said its good to know the facts.

Again sac, I said nothing about the ability to cut off a Ti ring. It was simply a comment about how often I saw it in the ER.

I've worked in several hospitals.  You'd be surprised how many times they have to cut rings off.  Not in the ER due to a mashed finger..I've seen it happen a few times though.. but for a surgery, MRI, CT, etc.  :-\   The old folks just never took off their rings and their knuckles/fingers got fat.
