AHHHHHH, what've I done?!

I'm in bizarro computer world!

Hopefully the PC to Mac learning curve is steep, b/c this seems pretty foreign right now.

(I think I'm gonna like it though.  :) )

Here's all the browser shortcuts you need to know...

apple + [ (forward)
apple + ] (backward)
apple + L (new URL)
apple + W (close window, applies to all apps)
apple + t (open new tab)
apple + q (quit application, applies to all apps)

most of these also do he same thing in finder.  Oh and apple + spacebar brings up spotlight - think of it like find on windows, except that it actually works and does so quickly.

Awesome.  Thank you, that's extremely helpful.

Is there a way to maximize a window so that the line of icons across the bottom of the screen isn't taking up precious real estate on this fairly small screen?

That's the dock.  it will always be there unless you hide it.  You can do that in the System Preferences, but the quick way is to go to the apple menu at the upper left hand corner,

apple -> Dock -> Turn Hiding On.

Try using Windows in a couple of months. It will feel like taking a few steps backwards.  ;D

Definitely turn hiding on for the dock.  Also, I make my icons pretty damn small and then turn magnification on as well.

I dunno how techie you are, but if you're at all familiar with Unix systems, you can use Terminal to do finds, greps, use nano or vi, and connect via SSH to a server or to a local virtual machine.  It's an extremely powerful OS with a beautiful GUI on top.

I'm sorry, but Apple lost me when I learned I had to drag applications I wanted to close into the trash.  ???

I made the jump to a macbook 2 weeks ago and am lovin' it!  It's easy to use and have had zero problems so far

If you ever feel homesick, or need a dose of spyware, you can always load Windows on that MacBook, too.  Best of both worlds!   [thumbsup]

Why the hell would you do that?  You've always been able to use apple + q or go to the bar and then go application-> quit application.  You must not have tried very hard to use a mac (or at all).

I think those were the really really old Macs...for some reason I remember doing the same thing when we first got them in middle or high school.  I've had my Mac for a while now and I love it but it's definitely time to upgrade!

So as of right now, the biggest thing I miss about using a PC is the ability with Firefox to adblock Roy Nexus's VirtualScope-esque sigline.  Is there any provision in Safari to do the same thing?
