"I WAS GOING HOW FAST, OFFICER?"

« Reply #30 on: May 14, 2008, 12:08:39 AM »

i'm with shannons.
i have two dukes and both are restricted klm policies and for the coverage they offer it is cheap. my car and our home and contents are with them as well, so no complaints here. oh, and every year i shop around cause i'm "careful" with my money unless it's for the bike waytogo

I'm with "Insure my ride". Just over $400 and the replacement value is more than I paid for the bike. It also covers gear up to $2k.

I've never made a claim but a friend has and it all went smoothly for him. His bike was written off and they assessed and paid out quickly and even negotiated with him so he could buy the wreck as a project bike (and the fact he had bonded with it).

I got a discount for being old, being a club member (IMC Tas) and recently doing a stay upright course. I also don't commute on it.

Seems like a good deal to me.

When I thought about WHY I wanted insurance, it's mainly if I write the bike off or it gets stolen, otherwise I would have gone 3rd party. With this in mind I increased the excess to $1000, I can chuck this on the credit card if crap ever happens, and as long as it doesn't I reckon thats saving me around $100 a year on the premium.

Uh-oh ... what's going on here?

OK time to resurrect this thread because it is insurance time (might as well keep it in the one place).

Can you guys fill me in on the implications of having no listed "non-standard accessories"? Also the implications of listing "non-standard accessories".

Over the past year my baby has transformed a little (thanks a lot you bastards), not that she is quite the wicked wench but she has become a very naughty girl. Now I just want to know what will happen to her jewellery if there is an incident (life threatening, abduction or otherwise), seems like they could actually decline claims if damage is only to the non-standard bits.

Your advice and opinions please? ...... oh yeah, currently with WQBE agreed value.

List all of them with WQBE.

As you may know, was in a wee accident in March, I can't remember it was that long ago. But my non standard bars, mirrors and exhaust was not listed.

Luckily, the exhaust was cheaper than the OEM standard exhaust  Roll Eyes, I don't know how much yours would be?

I had to source the bars and mirrors myself. i don't know if WQBE or repairer would do that for you?

So, in a nutshell, list them, it would only mean a few bucks more for peace of mind.

I would write more but she who must be obeyed wants the computer.  Roll Eyes

Be back in a couple of hours.  Undecided

I think thats the right approach - if the aftermarket parts are more expensive than OEM or difficult to get hold of, list them - you don't want your insurance co to replace your bling CRG levers or Rizoma mirrors with stock OEM ones. If they're not a "standard part", like a rack or a bellypan, list them.

I'd also make sure I listed any mod they might consider "performance enhancing", slipons might go unnoticed, but a PCIII might not, and I certainly wouldn't want to be claiming on a bike that I hadn't mentioned to them I'd stuck a turbocharger on... I'd probably also be pretty forthcoming about brake mods or significant wheel size changes (you put an 8" rim and a 200 setion tire on your 620? tell em about it!)

Thanks guys thats kinda what I thought, sourcing parts was one of the tricky bits I s'pose. But I also was not sure how expensive some of those OEM parts are ... for example I don't know if anybody has actually bought a standard exhaust system for a monster but I am assuming it would not be cheap.

Do I need to tell them how much it is all worth, 'cos I dunno if I want to do that calculation ... and I have spent nothing like some of you guys.

I think, standard exhaust was around $1800. Roll Eyes

I don't know what else you have purchased, but, I dare say that exhaust is not off the shelf. Which I already know.

If and when you ring them, they "may" ask you about aftermarket parts or accessories, so if you can't remember or just don't know, give 'em a rough guesstimate of each part/s.

And also, a standard set of bars is around $150 and mirrors I have no idea. Standard levers are around $60 each.

Don't know if I could help you anymore.  Huh?

Mine (parts) are listed with WQBE but I declined to add extra to my premium to cover them.
That being said it was an easy process, just spoke to them over the phone listed what's on the bike.
Told them the value, mostly listed the major parts i.e.
Pipes
Mirrors
Bars/grips

Items that would be prone to breakage in a garage fall or small spill but still cost 3-4k to repair.
I could have paid the premium to cover everything but it would have meant totaling everything spent and sending receipts to WQBE.
As I very rarely if ever park my bike out of eyesight I am taking the chance on leaving my cover this way.
But my items are listed and as pointed out OEM parts would be far more expensive to replace than whats on it now.

Good luck with the renewal, I think you'll find they are very reasonable with such things.
