I've been feeling drawn to dirt bikes lately.  I don't have one, but I rode them as a kid.  Is there a place to rent a dirt bike and gear around here and have some fun?

Oh! dirt bikes. I thought this thread was going somewhere else.  popcorn

DaTV does that very thing I believe. That would be fun. I grew up on dirt bikes as well.

I'll stick to my mountain bikes, and my annual Baja trip on the "BRP"650.

I just want to get good and sideways on a bike without fear of being thrown 10 feet into the air Smiley

There are a bunch of flat track schools in the area. http://www.americansupercamp.com/camps.shtml  It runs about $650 for a weekend (?) and all you need to bring is yourself. You get to slide around on XR100's all day.

I've done a couple over the years, and it's an absolute hoot!! Plus, you learn how to control a slide, which will translate over to anything you do on two wheels.

Wendy, George and I did Super Camp last time they were in Santa Rosa. It's a great clinic with cool instructors teaching you things you don't intuitively do on a motorcycle.

It varies in price, about $600-700 depending on location and time of year.

The next one is $650, in September: http://www.americansupercamp.com/camps.shtml

I have a trackday that weekend or else I might go again. I think the biggest thing I've used from Supercamp is steering my bike with my lower body. I've found it really helpful to help tighten up a line or control the bike when I'm leaned over by using my legs. During Super Camp they have a drill where you have to steer the bike completely with the lower body and you can't use your hands, it's pretty cool.

Oh and they always have "random" guest instructors who have been people like a Bostrom or one of the Hayden's, if you're lucky maybe Nicky might show up to show you how it's done flat track style.

i forget what the name of the place is, but it's right next to the D-Store in SF.  They rent dirt bikes and gear.

There are quite a few places nearby to ride them.  The classes, especially ASC are excellent.

Dan the man and I usually go a few times a year - we should go more often.

There used to be a place in/near Hollister where you could rent off road bikes.  If you have a truck and/or trailer, you can rent them, then drive out to Hollister Hills.  That place is great fun!  Go ask in the California section of www.thumpertalk.com.  They'll know for sure.

I'd do it too.  Dirtbiking is always a good time.
