I've been tempted to do that kind of thing with pokey people that drive outside the lane and leave a big space for a quick pass. Just can't bring myself to do it. There can be lots of loose crap near the line, or you hit the line and it's slippery, or they look up from their texting or putting mascara on and jerk the wheel cuz your Termi's and your crazy eyes freaked 'em out. Sounds like a good approach to Darwin Award fame. Quit doing that shit guys.
I wanted to say that same thing but didn't want to irritate even more people. Please be careful guys. I've spent time in a hospital and it sucks. DFW drivers are the biggest dumbasses anywhere. It's a fact.

I'm not to blame, I'm just following others' leads.
I won't try to justify that one-lane-pass. It's risky enough while being careful.
Sorry for outing you T.

I know you guys are OK it's the goofballs in the four wheelers that worry me. I'd rather play soccer in a minefield than ride a bike in DFW somedays. I wish every car driver had to spend six months on a motorcycle. I guarantee we would have better, more thoughtful, courteous drivers. Maybe when I am Governor.

That's what I'm talking about. You are not in control of your situation with the car drivers who want to kill you, or think your random death at their hands is a interesting anecdote at their next dinner soireƩ.

Reading TG's post with a quiet jealous rage building and lamenting the fact that I'll be stuck inside ALL day!

There was an article in the Dallas Morning News this week about 2 motorcyclist that were killed in an accident on a highway in the area, around 90% of the comments to the article were saying that they deserved it even though the article did not say what caused the accident. The police were quoted saying 'there was reports of them weaving in backed up traffic' but what does this mean?
Some people were even posting that they would 'prefer' to run down a motorcyclist than hit another car.

That sentiment is one of the reasons why lane-splitting/filtering is scary to me around here.

Hopefully, those posts were emotional and will never be acted out.

I agree. Personally, I'll be wary of increasing anyones road rage to the point where those kind of emotions take over and shut out sensible logic. I like to go fast, that's for sure and I'm getting more confident in my ability to control it. What I can't control is other motorists emotional reaction to my presence. That's the variable that can make or break my fun-time. The best I can do is be mindful that the emotional dynamic is there and to be aware of it.

I ride and drive with that same mindset. There's a difference between annoying other drivers and enraging them.

Well, for me twice in the past 4 months people have actually tried to run me off the road or make me crash. I was very lucky in those instances but it only takes a fraction of a seconds change and your toast. I keep thinking of the Drivers Ed movies back in the '70s of the hamburger meat passengers and drivers. That keeps me sane (most of the time) on the road. Guys and Girls keep your eyes open, be aware of your fellow motorists all around you at all times and stay about 5 - 10 mph faster than traffic and you'll live long and enjoy riding more.
Sure our bikes are the world standard for quality and confidence and we can do these amazing things but sense has to kept at the forefront of your mind. Do not ever second guess the drivers around here anymore. They have changed in the past 30 years. I find the '20 to '30 somethings (no disrespect intended here) are the most aggressive drivers specially if they are behind the wheel of jacked up 4x4 truck. Best thing to remember is that you can wind up looking like a June Bug on someones windshield. I want to ride with you all for years to come so please be mindfull. +1 to all the previous 'safety' posts.
Off the soapbox, over and out.

I'm getting in on this massive but important threadjack to say:
That difference that RR speaks of is the difference between Hooligan & Squid !
If we become squids who will we mock ?
Now I'm going to lunch

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.
