The Blue Flame 2008 695 Monster Controlled Folly

« Reply #45 on: August 22, 2008, 09:03:35 PM »

Oh, for crying out loud!  You know what'll happen if it's left up to me to tell the story.  And me typing two fingers short!

It all started with the glowing green meteorite...

Actually I don't have a picture of the first thing to happen.  I had left my key in the bike overnight.  Therefore, I had a dead battery.  I jumped it off the Lebaron and did not blow up the bike.

Fast foward to the mysterious gremlin in Dusty's Monster.  A few basic troubleshooting efforts were made on the roadside without success.  DDGM and Pam ran back to pick up his truck and his other bike.  Dusty took over on the 1098.  Dusty's bike would be picked up by DDGM and Pam when they came back through.

Next, DucMouse picked up a screwdriver, of all things, in her tire.  Not a nail or a screw, but a whole screwdriver.  By now we were beginning to wonder what was up.  The Ducati gods were not smiling on us. At least the weather was cooperating.

After we met up in Durango and had some lunch, we  set out on the approach to Red Mountain.  We started to spread out as everyone was riding their own ride.  Zaster and I were breaking in new rubber, and Dusty was on DDGM's 1098 which had new tires as well.

Zaster can tell the story better.  When I came around the bend, there was only a dissipating cloud of dust and no sign of a rider.  Punx Clever and Derrick from Minnesota were on the scene plus a number of riders from another party.  The rest of us trickled in full of fear for which one of us had gone off the road.  What a relief to find Zaster sitting on the rock he had just miraculously missed in his flight into the bushes.

First assessment of the damage:

After the initial shock began to wear off, it was time for pictures.  Zaster, with his rare sense of humor, agreed to show us where he landed.

Kingbaby took Zaster's bike for a test ride while we all regrouped.  Everyone was a little shaken and we hadn't even gone through the fun part yet.

Dusty goes over to give her Monster some sugar:

Oh, I'm just getting started.

We all arrived in Ouray then and got into some comfortable clothes, ice bags, and heat wraps.

We're on the homestretch!

Here's how Monarch Pass looked Sunday afternoon:

I should've known that 13,000 miles would not bode well for the Paladin:

After a couple days in the Springs, I headed home to Albuquerque, but ended up in a fender bender with a cage.  Ended my trip on a consistent note at least.   Sad

Her taillights and turn signals were not working so she was sited for that as being a causitive factor, but I am appalled at my surprise and inability to clear the car.  I almost did, but really wasn't sure what was behind me in the right lane.

WDB and Briton, my other son, got there right away and helped me get through it.

I hoped the finger was just dislocated but no such luck.  They tried pinning it, but something is in the way.  Hand surgery next Wednesday.  The bike is at the BMW/Ducati shop in the Springs.  Smitch of the SoCo Dogs picked it up and transported it for me.

I still look back on all the great memories with fondness and can't wait for next year.   Grin  Hopefully wiser and more experienced.

Damn, chica, that rim is crazy!  Glad your OK...that finger looks perfectly normal.

On a side note, you really should start hanging out with better looking men.  Sorry I couldn't be there to contribute my Brad Pitt-like hotness. Grin

In case you haven't gotten my phone message yet, I have your watch that you left in someone's room?  He asked me to return it to you and said he wants you to call him...something about a great time...lalalala   Wink

What'd you expect from a smelly pirate hooker?  Hmmmmm, I just wish I could figure out which one it was... Grin

The down also took out my front fork, cracked the gas tank, bent my gearshift lever, and front signal light.  That's what I noticed at the scene.  My finger swelled up later and turned purple.

Yes, we definitely would have enjoyed your contribution of Brad Pitt-liness, however, as you probably are aware, any guy on a Duc, in his riding gear, looks pretty studly to the gangsta chicas.   Wink

Well, let's see, for starters,  I need a job, but maybe you can just give me a coaching session on ebay selling.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

And the ride gets a bit complicated with a wounded duc:

The weasle goes with me on all my overnight trips if I can't line up a ferret sitter.  Boo needs his daily medication.  He's going to Oklahoma with me today as soon as I stop farting around on the DMF.   Cool

Wow, those are some really cool shots and wish I was there with you guys.  A side note, ok the REAL reason for the reply, is "How much is that sport classic in window???"  WOOF WOOF that bike is hot.  More pics please. Kind of reminds me of an idea to repaint one in the Ford GT Le Mans scheme (which looks like this guy did) And glad everyone is ok from the laydowns.....

Seriously makes me reconsider selling my bike if a job in Vail pans out  (fingers crossed).......

DDGM she is mostly ok. I'm responding because she is on the way to OK to see some family and she maybe away from a computer for a bit. I haven't heard back on the surgery yet but apparrently she popped a tendon/ligiment or something in her pinky. The bike damage wasn't all that bad, all easily replaced parts, so we're waiting on insurance. If they do decide to be rediculous and total it, I told her she should definitely do the buy back and I'd repair it for her. All straight replacementment nothing difficult at all. The officer on scene was a rider too, and so after Mom mentioned a couple times that she had no idea what had happened that she didn't see any signals or anything the officer did an investigation and did find the ladies tail lights defective. So ain't that a pregnant dog, someone can't be bothered with a wiring problem kinda facks up the rest of someone elses summer. Welll at least she's all right. Of course my brothers critique was the best "you guys wreck bikes like it's a hobby"  bang head laughingdp

Nice pics.  Looks like all had a great time.  But DAMN, people.  The bike demolition derby should not be the main event.  I wish I had been able to go, but then again, I'm almost glad I didn't.  Didn't want to add to the statistics.  I'm just glad the injuries to bikes and riders were relatively minor.  All get healed up, fix those bikes, and get back on the road.   waytogo  BTW, is there any one left to ride with?  Just curious.   laughingdp
