Looks like this "fad" has been around since before 1759:

3-5 mint leaves
1 spoonfull of sugar
1/2 lime juice
7-up
bicardi limon
splash of sweet and sour

muddle the mint, sugar and lime juice. fill glass with ice, use an ounce or two of bicardi limon, fill with 7-up, top with sweet and sour.

OK, I just tried 3 different renditions of the Mojitos listed here and they were good........Maybe it was my execution, but the bottled Bacardi stuff was better.  Maybe it was the lack of labor involved or something like that.  3 mojitos made from scratch+3 bacardi bottled  mojitos....this brothah is feelin pretty good!

i'll agree, only in the past couple of years have i seen people ordering mojito's like crazy in bars and restaurants...
most bartenders think they're a pain in the ass to make, too.

i'd take a guinness over a mojito anyday

Have a few mojitos, and it makes sense.

Some days Im in the mood for a Guiness, some days a single malt.  When its hot and humid out, I like a diversion from the typical Gin and tonic or vodka tonic.  Its good to mix it up a little.  

And +1 on Mojitos being a PIA to make!
