I wanted more brakes out of the front of my single rotor monster, but didn't want to do the double rotor deal and add a bunch of weight. On PJ's recommendation and a snag from LT's part's bin, I now have this setup:
-CM66 pads (PJ's Parts:
http://www.pjsparts.com/)
-Braking brand wave rotor - PJ's
-5.1 brake fluid (DesmoTimes)
-14mm Nissan MC (DesmoTimes)
I had the rotor and pads on for most of this year b/c the MC would not fit with the stock controls in the stock locations and I wanted to find a good mirror and control solution. There was certainly more stopping power than stock with this setup, but it wasn't earth shattering. I did manage to slide the front end a couple times with two fingers, but that was with new, cold tires and a serious squeeze on the lever.
I finally settled on a pair of CRG lanesplitters, rerouted the throttle cable and rotated the throttle so that the adjuster is on top of the controls. the MC now fits perfectly. Just finished buttoning everything up and the earth shattered.
All I can say is Wow. this is an absolutely fantastic setup. The new MC and the fresh fluid (old was 2 seasons old) give an incredible amount of power. Two finger stoppies with a single disk (and conti sport attacks) are easier than they should be for an old guy like me.
total bill for everything was probably around 300. No extra weight, great feel and single finger power. I can't imagine ever needing more brakes than this on this little bike. I highly recommend this setup. BTW, the CM66 pads have performed great -- even in the rain. they heat up just fine with the single rotor and have been pretty much fade free no matter what I do to them. Still great bite even after a couple thousand miles.
BTW, do yourself a favor next time to bleed your brakes -- switch to 5.1. Great stuff..
