Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: He Man on August 28, 2008, 02:52:04 PM Does the bulb looks about 1 inch long (the glass part) and looks like it has 2 filaments inside? thats an H4 if it is the case.
Measure the length behind the seat of the bulb. I will tell you if you can fit a bixenon in there. You may opt for that because running HIDs usually mean no high beam. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on August 28, 2008, 05:55:22 PM [bang] THIS IS INCORRECT PLEASE SEE ROSSTERMYERS POST BELOW, I only left it to show what the manual says
MOM has the answers Low beam H7 12v 55W Hi Beam H7 12 V 55W Crap tail light/brake light is already LED ... didn't know that. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on August 28, 2008, 06:20:01 PM I'm going to go get the Phillips extreme bulbs. says it throws 80% more light and 50 ft longer. plus DOT legal.

UPDATE: MOM is WRONG! the low beam is a H7 . HIGH beam is actually a H1. i totally forgot that since these are modern reflective housing lights you can look right on the lens in the bottom right corner and it tells you right there what the bulb type is. its like that on most cars these days too. [bang] im putting in my order for a kit from the website posted in this thread. any ideas or tips as to where to mount the ballast/igniter? Title: Re: HID's in a 696? NO CRAP you are right, after looking at the bike the upper lamp is an H7 while the lower is not. NOW all we have to do is get Ducati to change our manual :o how long would the wires be, maybe mount them in the area behind the fairing with the horn? Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: rosstermyer on August 29, 2008, 04:12:19 PM i took off all the fairings and the carbon canister to give the bike a more naked look. now i really have no where to put a ballast. ???
Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on August 29, 2008, 04:44:05 PM hmmm well you got me. how about under the tank panels. i think there is room in front of the fuel tank.

GL with your lighting setup Raux. BTW the company posted in the beg. of this thread seems really good. they will even do a hybrid kit for only 15 dollars extra(basically they will give you 2 ballast/igniters, but with an H7 and an H1 instead of 2 of only one bulb type). i thought that was really cool of them to allow custom orders like that. plus you cant beat the size of those ballast...i have never seen any that small before. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on August 29, 2008, 08:26:19 PM k, let me know about the room in the panels, like i said I THINK there's room.
I am taking my off tomorrow, so i'll let you know if you haven't checked already. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: TAftonomos on August 29, 2008, 08:39:36 PM I wanna see a pic of the beam pattern at night w/hid. The 696 headlight looks great, would look even better on the front of my s4rt... and if the beam pattern is good :)

Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: rosstermyer on August 30, 2008, 04:32:34 AM i called them and they said they could do that, but only on phone orders.
Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on August 30, 2008, 04:07:27 PM OK took apart the bike today.
Not sure there's space under the tank panels that's enough for the light ballasts. i think if you mount them to the front of the airbox in the frame area, maybe. or maybe even where the horn is mounted. I have other things to note not related to the lights, but I'll start a new thread. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: ducaticop on June 10, 2009, 07:51:02 AM im assuming the low beam is a daytime running beam like on my old monster. im not sure id run an HID bulb/ballast in the low beam. ull be replacing a lot of expensive bulbs. i plan on going with a xenon halogen low and an HID highbeam on my new bike
Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: Raux on June 10, 2009, 12:04:28 PM ok just to clarify there are 3 bulbs in the 696 headlight unit
H7, H1 and H5W (the middle light) you need to replace all three if you want pure white. Title: Re: HID's in a 696? Post by: slickb0i on July 24, 2009, 10:11:42 PM Wow just the thread I've been looking for!! Anywho, has anyone been successful using this kit yet? If so, where did you mount the balast?
Thanks, Pete |
