Title: How to prop up your tank Post by: somegirl on August 31, 2008, 12:34:20 PM 1. Make sure your bike is securely on its sidestand or a rearstand.
2. Use your key to remove the seat. (http://paularickert.net/albums/userpics/tank01.JPG) 3. The tank prop should be stored underneath the seat as shown. Take it out. (http://paularickert.net/albums/userpics/tank02.JPG) (http://paularickert.net/albums/userpics/tank03.JPG) 4. Undo the tank latch. (http://paularickert.net/albums/userpics/tank04.JPG) 5. Lift the tank (you may need to straighten the bars to do so). 6. Place the tank prop between the tank and the frame as shown. I would guess heated grips. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: NAKID on August 31, 2008, 05:37:51 PM Hmmmm, that's not where I place the tank prop rod. Mine goes next to the fuse box on a frame cross member. Also, there is a round indentation in the edge of the tank that the top part of the prop rod...

Also, there is a round indentation in the edge of the tank that the top part of the prop rod... That's strange the indentation in the tank on my bike is at the left side of the tank, not the right side. I took me 2 year to accidentally find it though. Also when doing it this way you can lift the tank much higher than in these pics. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: NAKID on September 01, 2008, 10:42:35 AM Sorry, I meant next to the relays on the left side of the tank, not the fuse box on the right side...

Also, there is a round indentation in the edge of the tank that the top part of the prop rod... Sorry, I meant next to the relays on the left side of the tank, not the fuse box on the right side... ditto. and propping it there allows you to lift the tank higher than what's pictured. also, make sure not to do this on a full tank or some fuel will leak out through the filler and get all over the place. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: somegirl on September 03, 2008, 07:29:07 PM Yeah, sorry, I wasn't sure how much fuel I had and didn't want to lift it too high. I figured this gave the general idea.

Also, there is a round indentation in the edge of the tank that the top part of the prop rod... Yeah, my prop rod doesn't even fit over the frame as in these pictures. One day I missed the that location and accidentally hit the cross member instead. The rod went in like it had eyes of its own. Needless to say, so much secure that way. And I always use the indentation in the bottom of the tank (left side). I must check out the right side to see if there's one over there too. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: Takster on October 25, 2008, 07:48:03 PM Is it the same procedure for lifting the tank on the 2009 696? Not even close. You've got to remove all of the plastic on the tank, remove the screw holding it on underneath the seat area, remove the screws holding it in the little rubber stopper thingie and sort of slide it out towards the back of the bike... Hit the ducati site and see if you can find the PDF of the parts catalogue. It has some great exploded diagrams. You'll see what I'm talking about. I can't find the link right now, but if you PM me with your email address, I can send you the pdf. ~T Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 19, 2009, 03:49:38 PM would this give the necessary room to remove the belt covers?
Edit: just did it tonight and yeah. it does. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: corey on May 28, 2009, 12:57:11 PM hmm. i just use a hammer...
Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: K3V1N on July 06, 2009, 12:22:18 PM If I need a lot of room I'll roll a towel up and tip the tank towards the back of the bike supporting the tank with a large towel roll. 06 Monster 620.
Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: mstevens on July 06, 2009, 04:17:51 PM This "indentation" in the tank...
I've searched and searched and can't find any such thing. Could someone please post a picture for the simple-minded among us? Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: herm on July 06, 2009, 04:19:11 PM i would have to disagree....
granted, that is how ducati designed it, but only because there is not enough room under there for an 18" piece of 2x4 Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: NorDog on July 08, 2009, 05:49:35 AM i would have to disagree.... Not sure what it is with which you disagree. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: herm on July 08, 2009, 08:33:58 AM i disagree with using the little coat hanger that ducati included for propping up the tank. i think it is too unstable.

I understand the point. However, it's not always possible to use something more stable. I don't ride with a 2x4. Last fall I had to jump my battery in the hospital parking lot, and the little coat hanger sure came in handy for that. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: NorDog on July 09, 2009, 11:28:32 AM i disagree with using the little coat hanger that ducati included for propping up the tank. i think it is too unstable. Got it. Thanks for the clarification. I can be slow at times. I would like to add however that mine seems pretty darn stable. That is, it's stable once I started using it correctly. As I posted on this thread some time back I learned the right way by accident, but I did learn. Perhaps mine (07 S4RS) is beefier than those found on other models. Or are they all the same? I don't know. Title: Re: How to prop up your tank Post by: NekkedChic on February 28, 2010, 01:25:21 PM Not even close. Ohhh, no-you are correct-the 696 is MUCH different/more difficult. ~T woulda been nice to have this few months ago-we removed all those thousands screws n bolts, 3-piece tank covers, then raised tank all to get to battery in order to add pigtail (homemade) with wiring to permanently sit under my seat now in order to more easily plug into battery tender AND to add power source for my IPhone. Still not correct "ends" IMO-have cigarette lighter end on it, too loseee for IPhone, comes undone while riding no matter how we have tried to secure it. Working on new finish/end wiring that can easily adjust/swap for tender or IPhone charger etc. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks |
