Author Topic: How to prop up your tank  (Read 24498 times)

1. Make sure your bike is securely on its sidestand or a rearstand.

2. Use your key to remove the seat.



3. The tank prop should be stored underneath the seat as shown.  Take it out.





4. Undo the tank latch.



5. Lift the tank (you may need to straighten the bars to do so).

6. Place the tank prop between the tank and the frame as shown.

Hmmmm, that's not where I place the tank prop rod. Mine goes next to the fuse box on a frame cross member. Also, there is a round indentation in the edge of the tank that the top part of the prop rod...

That's strange the indentation in the tank on my bike is at the left side of the tank, not the right side. I took me 2 year to accidentally find it though.

Also when doing it this way you can lift the tank much higher than in these pics.

Sorry, I meant next to the relays on the left side of the tank, not the fuse box on the right side...

Sorry, I meant next to the relays on the left side of the tank, not the fuse box on the right side...

ditto.  and propping it there allows you to lift the tank higher than what's pictured.  also, make sure not to do this on a full tank or some fuel will leak out through the filler and get all over the place.

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't sure how much fuel I had and didn't want to lift it too high.  I figured this gave the general idea.

Yeah, my prop rod doesn't even fit over the frame as in these pictures.  One day I missed the that location and accidentally hit the cross member instead.  The rod went in like it had eyes of its own.  Needless to say, so much secure that way.

And I always use the indentation in the bottom of the tank (left side).  I must check out the right side to see if there's one over there too.

Not even close.  You've got to remove all of the plastic on the tank, remove the screw holding it on underneath the seat area, remove the screws holding it in the little rubber stopper thingie and sort of slide it out towards the back of the bike... Hit the ducati site and see if you can find the PDF of the parts catalogue.  It has some great exploded diagrams.  You'll see what I'm talking about.  I can't find the link right now, but if you PM me with your email address, I can send you the pdf.
