The wife and I were going out for date night and Bambi decided to run in to the car. Its a nearly new '09 Toyota Matrix with 4,000 miles on it. The crap part about it is that the deer got up and ran away!!!

It's sad really. I wonder what goes on out in the woods that makes doe-eyed young......well........doe want to throw themselves into the path of oncoming vehicles to their deaths?
that could of been ugly on the bike, glad you're ok!
those suckers pop out of nowhere! i hit 2 in '06 in a total of about 7 months, one in missouri and the other in iowa. the iowa ones are fat and stupid, just about totaled my company suburban.
my office gave me deer whistlers for the new truck [roll]
It's mating season (the rut) for deer now so they will be running around more then usual trying to get a piece of a$$ so everyone needs to be extra careful this time of year.
Gotta say it...
Oh, deer....

So it would've been better if it died or was injured? I guess a free meal out of the deal might not be such a bad consolation prize.

At least he'd get something out of it. [roll]
Good thing it didn't go through the windshield.
January 2nd, 2005...11:15 pm.
I hit one in my favorite car ever. Totaled the car...broke the deer's back. The couple that stopped to see if I was OK found it a bit disconcerting when I walked over to the deer and stuck a knife through the base of it's skull.
They seemed to ease a little bit when i explained to the that the deer was paralyzed and had I not done that, it would have just suffered.
The sausage wasn't bad but lost about half the meat to trauma. :(

That is by far the manliest thing I've heard in a while. ;D
Do be careful everyone. Deer season around here is almost as bad as Christmas for most locations. Our stores get busy. Hunters come in from everywhere (I'm in Central/ North Missouri) and the deer loose their minds for about a month and a half. About 2 weeks from now the deer carcass count on the highways will be through the roof. I can honestly say if I ever tag one on the bike and am able to get up afterwards, that son of a pregnant dog is gonna feed me for a while.
Ok, I really need to move. That rant was much more hillbilly-esque than I'm used to.
Almost hit a fawn and doe this morning on base...
Had a doe jump out in front of me on the bike two weeks ago. i was headed up Independence Pass going about 30, I hit the brakes and just barely missed it - it was so close I could have touched her as we passed. FREAKED me out!!

Had the same thing happen to me about a month ago, except I was on my bicycle (going about 35 down Mt. Tam). Fishtailed like crazy but managed to (barely) stop in time. It was broad daylight, middle of the afternoon.

I'm beginning to hate those tall rodents almost as much as I hate squirrels.

i've hated deer all along... they are so selfish
they have 500+ acres of land directly across the street,
but they ate my garden and all of the flowers in my yard
>:(
This video makes me cringe and laugh at the same time. :o [laugh]

I'm not sure if these are a problem anywhere else, but while I worry about the deer out here.....the wild hogs scare me the most.
the deer's head at least stick up over the tall grass. you can't see the hogs until they are standing in your lane staring your front tire in their face.

The problem with this stupid deer is that it was running full speed across the road. Normally you can see their eyes standing off in the ditch, but we didnt even have time to react. Deer number one was in front of us and we just missed it. As Mrs. Pedasso was braking the second one hit us. Fortunately our kid wasnt in the car because she loves deer. Unfotunately it ran away as I mentioned earlier because I love deer sausage (not that kind you perverts). :P
Final bill was about $6500 and they forgot to put the "S" back on the grill. She drives straight now and doesnt seem to have any issues. Its a fun little car. My only gripe is that its a 10.5 gallon tank so I am filling up once a week.

I have a 34 gallon tank and fill it once a week, starting again real soon! Cry me a river!
On a lighter note, I gassed up the bike Sunday at 2.98 a gallon!
Back on topic, watch carefully up in our neck of the woods. We have a significant over-population issue. And they are close to rutting. If you see one without antlers running flat out, be very very vigilant, it is certain SHE is running from HE!
I love when that happens. Not the fish tail part, just the running into wild life on the MTB.

That deer might have walked away, but I bet it's dead by now. :'(
I've hit a few deer in my time. One time I had slowed down to about 80 before I hit the deer. Deer kept right on running. When I stopped the car later and couldn't open the drivers side door, I went around to the front to check out the damage. Fender was all crinkled & pushed back, Radiator support busted, Headlight missing. The dogs were gathered around the empty headlight bucket, licking away at what the deer had for breakfast. And yet the deer ran off...
