Just read this little reminder on the local forum about why we need to gear up properly, even for those "quick trips to the store".
The guy didn't even break any bones, but judging from the road rash I'm sure he'd rather have the broken bones. The writeup directly from the rider is on the second page of the thread. For those of you who don't care to check out the pics, he managed a good amount of rash on a one foot x 6 inch swatch on his back, a softball on his shoulder, most of the outside of his left shin, most of his left forearm, and a good chunk of his right palm.
Disclaimer: If you're squeamish about injuries like this, I wouldn't check out the pics at the bottom of the thread, but the writeup is pretty good. It's not like they're dripping blood, but they're not exactly pretty either.

Ditto. I might have to start wearing the shell of my winter pants.
the guys avitar has a pic of what I'm guess'n is him do'n a wheelie in jeans. [roll]
Yeah, road rash sucks. I'd much rather not have any of that thank you.

Because he was only going up the road.... [roll]
I rode from Ducati Island back to the camping site in shorts, T shirt, Sandals, didn't go fast though. I always ride in at least boots, jeans, Jacket, gloves, helmet. At least. Except for at MotoGP like I said.
I always feel like I'm taking a big risk with the jeans. although a friend of mine went down with those jean riding pants and only got a small abraision on his knee. That's beter than I thought those things would do.
Dam I need to get riding pants.
I am still sporting those Dragin Jeans with Dainese Armor but looking at his photos it seemed like he had no gear on at all :-\

He didn't have any gear. Dragin Jeans would have done him well.
I feel naked when I'm not wearing gloves. Don't have anything for the legs, but I have been thinking of at least getting some of the Icon Field Armor.
That's why I wear gear no matter how far I am going. Dam that is some nasty road rash. Thanks for showing this, now I am going to show it to a few people I know that ride without full gear. Thanks.
ouch!
as far as gear, i feel pretty lucky that my get-off in jeans (with gloves, jacket, and helmet, too.) didn't net me any meaningful road rash.

+1 yeah, I kinda noticed that too...Ohhh nooo officer, he never stunts on his bike!!!LOL [bang]
wow what an endorsement for wearing gear.
I will admit I have been squiding it up this week while my jacket zipper gets fixed. I think I will cage it from now on until I get it back.
Last time I rode with t-shirt and shorts was in Thailand on a scooter...
I mean, come on...you HAVE all that expensive gear , just wear it..
Yes, it takes some time to put the leather pants on and also the boots and stuff...
But I think the skin needs more time to grow back.
Poor guy...hope he can afford some good doctors.
Man I love gear!!! ;D

damn skippy..... I went through a ton of crappy womans to find me this good one. I aint give'n her up w/o a battle. [cheeky]
My wife & I were going out for a quick bite last night and we noticed a guy in front of us on a GSXR packing a girl. She had a full helmet, jacket & long pants on. He had a full helmet, gloves & what looked like some sort of ICON riding jacket. When they stopped and he put his feet down I noticed he was wearing shorts and sneakers, no socks. WTF? He should have had at least socks on! [laugh]
I think about this kind of stuff ever time I see a guy around here riding in shorts and sandals. Usually they have the backward cap and t-shirt to match. Well, he'll have a nice "put your gear on" reminder everytime he looks in the mirror from here on out.
Best one I've seen here was about 2 years ago. Guy was on an 86 Virago wearing a string tank top, cut off shorts and two dollar foam flip-flops with a full face! The helmet looked really out of place considering the extreme lack of other gear. ATGATT!!!
i was reading an article in blender and this guy, not sure who.. a rap star or something, was doing a stoppie for the photo shoot with ZERO gear on. and in the article he made fun of people who ride with leather.
Yesterday ridding on the 5 freeway in the fast lane doing about 70, a Vespa comes up along side me ( I know a vespa) but thats not the funny part. A guy and a girl are on it the guy has on shorts no shoes no shirt with a half helmet, the girl has no shoes, shorts and wearing a bikini top ( i noticed that right away ) [thumbsup]
I didnt know Vespas went that fast for one and if these 2 went down it was gonna be all bad.
only in L.A. my friends
I saw a dude on the highway I passed in my 911 and he had on sweat pants, hoodie, helmet with open visor and flip flops. Pizza toe!

big inner smile.. cause it was a piece o crap ninja too.
"dress for the crash, not for the ride"
I need to get some overpants because wearing leather pants to work (I teach in a high school) is an invitation for mockery.
well at least both guys today were wearing full gear. nice to see cause most of the ones around this town don't

I used take some ribbing at work too, then I showed them these pictures. That was the end of it.
