Just read this little reminder on the local forum about why we need to gear up properly, even for those "quick trips to the store".

The guy didn't even break any bones, but judging from the road rash I'm sure he'd rather have the broken bones.  The writeup directly from the rider is on the second page of the thread.  For those of you who don't care to check out the pics, he managed a good amount of rash on a one foot x 6 inch swatch on his back, a softball on his shoulder, most of the outside of his left shin, most of his left forearm, and a good chunk of his right palm.

Disclaimer:  If you're squeamish about injuries like this, I wouldn't check out the pics at the bottom of the thread, but the writeup is pretty good.  It's not like they're dripping blood, but they're not exactly pretty either.

We're liberated by the hearts that imprison us.  We're taken hostage by the ones that we break.

If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

I rode from Ducati Island back to the camping site in shorts, T shirt, Sandals, didn't go fast though. I always ride in at least boots, jeans, Jacket, gloves, helmet. At least. Except for at MotoGP like I said.
I always feel like I'm taking a big risk with the jeans. although a friend of mine went down with those jean riding pants and only got a small abraision on his knee. That's beter than I thought those things would do.

Dam I need to get riding pants.

I am still sporting those Dragin Jeans with Dainese Armor but looking at his photos it seemed like he had no gear on at all  :-\

He didn't have any gear. Dragin Jeans would have done him well.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

I feel naked when I'm not wearing gloves.  Don't have anything for the legs, but I have been thinking of at least getting some of the Icon Field Armor.
Some people are like slinky's.  They serve absolutely no purpose, but they always bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

That's why I wear gear no matter how far I am going.  Dam that is some nasty road rash.  Thanks for showing this, now I am going to show it to a few people I know that ride without full gear.  Thanks.

zarn02

ouch!

as far as gear, i feel pretty lucky that my get-off in jeans (with gloves, jacket, and helmet, too.) didn't net me any meaningful road rash.
