Title: Track bike for sale
Post by: Slag on October 20, 2008, 07:57:46 AM
I'm sure that there are a  few people wanting a track bike after Saturday  ;D I have decided to let my R6 go since I will most likely be tracking my 1098 exclusively. I am asking $6000.
2006 Yamaha R6 w/only 500 miles  :o

Hot Bodies race fairings w/ pearl yellow paint
Wood craft engine guard
Ohlins steering damper
M4 full race exhaust
Vortex rearsets
Steel braided brake lines
Suspension set up by Jim Cambora

Bike was built by Ty Howard

My 1098 has been repaired, so the R6 will be left at home. Do not want to risk it since I am going to sell it  [laugh]

Oh, I gotta say that scares me a bit... When I totaled my S2r 800 (twisted frame + lots of other stuff), the estimate from AMS to fix was 13k.
The bike sold as an "EZ fix" to someone unsuspecting that didn't check it first. Not a Happy Ending.
Just saying...

Yes ... you must be weary and know what to look for and in most cases all you can go by are the pictures on the site. If your goal is to buy something cheap and fix it cheap yourself (IE. not by AMS), then you can do good to purchase a bike this way. Some of these bikes are in TX and you may be able to get a better look at them, but that I do not know that for sure.

But please do your homework and know what you are getting into, nothing sold this way is guaranteed, has any kind of warranty or can be returned!!!

You will not see me pregnant dog about thread jacking, but posting a place to buy salvaged bikes in my track bike sale thread is a little cold. don't you think? Did I piss you guys off somehow  [laugh]

The R6 would make a much better track bike for the majority of people. Track bikes will be crashed. The R6 will be MUCH cheaper to repair after a big get off. The bike is very light, and has comparable power to a 749. This bike is track ready and only has 500 miles on it. It really is a steal. I am selling it so I can buy something from Sir L'Smart .

Register with the site and read the FAQ THOROUGHLY!!! The customer service people, while helpful, will not have any info on the items up for auction.

No threadjack intended, but it rarley is. If I had the $ Zach I would buy your R6 pronto and you are right, it would be much easier on the wallet to crash than any Duc. I only posted the link because he mentioned he was looking for something Ducati specific...

Please feel free to jack any of my threads  ;D [thumbsup] ... will delete at your request!

Not too sure  how you'd look in a German leather outfit with the Geshtopho hat on Slag my dear. It's just not the fashion statement I see you as. Something a little more Gucci more your style.

I have ridden the r6 that this thread is actually about, it is nimble as a mountain bike and insanely cool sounding.  Better wear your ear plugs fo-sho, that m4 exhaust is sick!  That bike is sooooo worth the money!

As for the thread jack, you easties should be ashamed, I thought I was the black sheep.  Where's swanny when you need him. Looking for some commitment here dude  [cheeky]

Hey Carlo, you should get this bike. As some others have said... repairing this one would be ALOT cheaper than the duc if something happens. And I think once you get used to the difference in power band, you'll like the smoothness of the inline 4 at the track.

Title: Re: Track bike for sale
Post by: cm on October 21, 2008, 05:55:34 AM
It's definitely very tempting.  Maybe if I could test ride it at the track, I may learn that a 4-cylinder isn't that bad.  As I'm still too low in the learning curve, I am trying to keep the bike a constant and I've also decided it's not all about just building skill but also enjoying the bike that inspired me to want to ride (have always liked Ducati and the yellow 748 ever since they were introduced in the 90's).

Having said that, I would love to try a Japanese bike on the track, especially a Yamaha. I only know what I have currently ridden so I don't have a lot of datapoints yet. The japanese bikes also seem to make sense from the standpoint that they wouldn't need to get their valve clearances checked every 10-12 track days...

I will be picking up a 2nd bike in the spring (if I meet my own personal objectives - which is getting comfortable on the bike and getting through that period with no 'incidents') and retiring the 748 to primarily street duty (I am beginning to hate changing bodywork, etc. back especially since I go to the track so often).  If this bike is still around when I get through the next couple of weeks (have to be out of town for a while), I will be taking a serious look at it. I want something bulletproof reliable that I can just change tires and brakepads (and oil) on, and that would be it so I can focus on riding.  So far, the 748 has held up fine but I will have to have the valves checked before the spring season. I can't tolerate vehicles that aren't reliable since it would distract me from what I like to do - ride (not wrench).

If someone from the DFWM board picks this up in the month of Oct. I will also throw in a private track day with Ty Howard or pay for the track day with Jeff Nash.

cm,

Having several flavors of bikes in my garage I can say without question that a jap inline four track bike will cost you pennys compared to Ducati dollars. I love my Ducs but as they saying goes "don't take anything to the track that you are not willing to leave in the dumpster". Others have said on the board what I feel, the thought of throwing away a prized Ducati would make me slower and more cautious on the track. Having a less expensive, more easily repairable track bike actually might let you push your personal envelope a little further.

Of course that also bans you from AMS track days. There are many other track day outfits out there you could ride with. But I hear the AMS track days are a little more sane and safer. Not so many 20 year old GSXR Rossi wannabes to contend with. Just my devalued two cents.

Has anyone tried fitting 1098 skins onto a GSXR or an R1?  Maybe we could fool them.

I would still keep my 748 so can use that for AMS or Euro only days...I ride with all the track day groups.  ;D

What is the status on this beast?

Did you ever get it street legal, or is there more to do to it?

I may know somebody looking for a streetbike, that they can occasionally take to the track.

A surprise bid-war erupted for the R6 today, and the gavel has dropped on the sale.  The new owner has taken possession, and I must admit to being a little sad.  I received a fair price, one that was  higher than I had initially asked.  I still took a huge beating.  Thanks to all of those who showed interest in the bike  [beer]   [moto]
