Title: What's up with Politics board today?
Post by: factorPlayer on November 04, 2008, 11:41:03 AM

it appears to be read-only.  On election day too.... whose brain fart was that?

Things got a bit heated last night, so we are taking a day (or 2) off.  It will be back.

Besides, nothing good could come out of an argument on election day.

Seems like an overreaction, to a comment which was a HUGE overreaction to a perceived insult IMO. Lame.

On the whole we had been very civil over there. Sucks that one comment got the WHOLE thing locked.  :-\

How do you guys think being insulting about it will work?

The point was that it was locked because a personal attack was launched. Everyone knows that once one is thrown, things de-escalate rather rapidly. I have to say that I concur completely with Nate on his decision.

Ah thanks for the link, I saw that thread earlier and might have actually read it had it been less obtusely titled.  Guess I missed out on the recent drama.

All in all it's positively civil compared to the feces-flinging that goes on at some other moto boards.

Not well I would suspect, but I don't see any insults from anyone.  ???

The brainfart comment is asking if it was just a mistake...and my overreaction comment isn't an insult, or surely isn't meant to be one if it sounds like it. It's just an observation. Locking the whole board for one comment just seemed excessive is all.

No insult to DP intended in the least.

It would appear that you, for one, were part of the problem.

That said, I wonder at the thinking process that believes that the proper reaction to an overreaction is a bigger overreaction. ie; you over reacted to a statement in a forum, so we're gonna close the whole forum.

Seems a bit excessive.

Seems a bit excessive.

because it was a big debate about having it in the first place.

So any work it involves (like this thread) makes it more likely to go away.

This is a motorcycle forum.  That's the most divisive section and pisses people off the most.

If you think that means there are some people looking for a reason to get rid of the politics section you are correct.   Not a lot of support for it from an admin perspective.

Nick, no worries on the CDC plug (although I gotta say the DMF trash talk gets old pretty fast; especially from those who keep coming back here anyway...pretty shitty of them to make personal attacks and then trot over here like nothing was ever said).

<ducking>

every hint at admonishing the flounder(s) for locking the politics thread, such as this topic.......makes it even more likely that the politics board will die.

just my opinion of course

I may totally regret mentioning this.

In the event DP totally shuts down the politics forum...

In addition to the CDC, the little forum me and my NYMMC buddies set up has a "Politics and Religion" forum.

The method of voting isn't really political, it is historical.

Popular vote is your vote and my vote and everyone else' votes added together happening today.

The Electoral vote happens Dec 15th, and each state gets a number of votes based roughly on population.  The electoral mirrors the popular vote for that state, but maybe not the entire country.
