Exactly how much effort is one supposed to put into
Doing the Right Thing?
3 days ago I found a PALM Trio or Centro...anyway
some fancy phone
and
I need a phone since mine is 4 y/o
Now mountain rules state that a ground score is a ground score if there is no one within visible sight when ground score is made
but
since it has been said that I am of high moral standing... [roll]
I have a need to return the phone since they are not cheap
so I purchased a charger since it was dead and went through the phone
Left a message on "dads" cell stating who i was and what I found with personal and work numbers to contact me so I can return the phone
24hrs goes by and nothing
day two I go through it some more and find out the owners name and where she works
call work, identify myself, and ask to speak with "Courtney"
no joy
ask for some contact info so i can return her property
no joy, they won't give me anything
day three
find more info in the phone
find out that "mom" lives just down the road from one of our quarters
stop by on the way off shift this morning to return phone
people wont answer door
I can hear them inside
they wont answer the door
WTF?
at what point do i get to keep the phone and not have bad karma?
The point that they wouldn't open the door.
You've put in a good effort - tried multiple contact points. Give it until monday and then call it you new phone. Assuming you can get it activated in your name.
You've gone above and beyond and they've been weird about it. Give it another day or two and then erase everything and keep it.
My $0.02
Turn it in to the Po-Po; there's something fishy going on.

it's a sim card phone, I just have to swap out the cards
people can just be secluded and dont want to be bothered. There was a video of a police officer who was struggling with a man hyped on drugs and the cop was wrestling with him for a good 5-10 minutes and dozens of people just walked by.
Call it yours, i would of stopped after calling her major contacts.

that's what my paranoia was thinking
I found it on the tailboard of my unit
The previous owner is...maybe was
young and attractive
My paranoia figures chick got taken but one of the takers got cold feet and left it there on purpose

You've called "Dad" and "work" as well as gone by "Moms" house. Are there friends listed?

142 of them
and after reading through most of her 1650 text messages
<modified>
I have found her to be disagreable
then I say keep it.
the owner probably already reported it lost and it won't work. replace the sim card and enjoy the new tele.
The souls of the damned or departed follow their possessions. Turn it in to the Po-Po.
(I don't ascribe to the above "soul" thing, it just sounded apocalyptic and scary.)
She's apparently a snotty, stuck up pregnant dog who doesn't care about her terribly expensive phone. Clearly she doesn't need it.
But I think you should go the extra mile. Check the phone-knowing the type of girl this sounds like, I'd lay money there's at least one picture of her on there she'd prefer not be on the internet.
Post it on craigslist under missed connections.
"To whom it may concern. If the ass pictured above is yours, I found your phone. Email me."
You'll probably make a "best of".
^ [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
nope
none
just the "BFF's" posing together all...whatever the female version of GQ is...Vogue that's it
pouty lips and halloween costumes
there is however video of them drunk and lighting a building on fire with hairspary and a lighter

and
I really don't like calling women names
I think this is a simple case of karma.
You must have done something good somewhere. She's a pregnant dog. Karma rewarded you and punished her.
Normally I'd say give it a little time. This case it's yours.

She sounds like your soulmate - the exact opposite of you. [laugh] (That was meant as a compliment to you)
turnit in to the police. you'll feel better about yourself and won't have an existential delimma.
plus, if they were setting something on fire ti might help solve an arson case.
though you really should take any good pics off and hold onto them for later ;D
Shoot it. Shooting things is always a good time.
If you keep it you'll feel guilty.
Shoot it!!! [evil]
i left my iphone at the gym one night...
i realized it a half hour later, and returned to find
someone had turned in the phone at the front desk.
as i was driving back to the gym,
i thought there is no way in hell i'm ever going to see it again...
i was soooo happy someone had turned it in,
the only problem was i had no idea who to thank.

Thats not a sim card, Its a regular SD card for more memory. If the phone was reported stolen you could be in Hot water.
You cold drop it by the Phone carrier & let them deal with it If you don't like the P.D.

One way to look at karma is that it lets you do bad things to other people and assume they deserve it.
This broad probably flipped off a box of kittens or punched a baby.

Or, find out where snotty pregnant dog lives, take detailed series of action pics (with phone) of you teabagging said phone, and then mail the phone to her. Ta-da!
Karmic teabagging! ;D
BOO HANDING IT OVER TO PO-PO... YAY NEW CELL PHONE!!!! You've done due diligence.
My first thought is to keep the phone. But, otoh, you're a firefighter right? If I was you, I wouldn't wanna do anything that could possibly put my job in jeopardy.

just like the sim card under my battery
the SD card is in a different spot
You know who owns the phone. Drop it at the PD with the owners name and number. It's not OK to keep it just because they are stupid. And like others said.....in your and my line of work you never know who is trying to set you up.

Ah, the voice of reason. I was going to say you made all reasonable attempts to return it, so keep it. Hbliam is right.

Which is a bummer because I really like that phone
so i just bought one online a minute ago [thumbsup]
I just tried calling mom again and no answer
I'm just going to mail it to her
this is crazy difficult to do the "right" thing
and again no answer
I hate call screeners
"omg I don't know this number so I'm not going to answer"
pay your make the beast with two backsing bills and you don't have to worry about who's calling...make the beast with two backs!!!
and to top it off she doesn't have a mailbox to drop it in so now I am out the 30 bones for the charger and some more to mail it to her
I think I'll take JJJ's advice and put a .17 hummer round through it and leave it on the doorstep
[bang]

No, drop it off at the PD. After they don't claim it (90 days to 6 months) they should release it to you. If they do claim it, then it worked out as it should have. Plus if you mail it and it gets lost and they decide to finally call you about it you are now screwed. PD drop off will prove you turned it in.

ok ok
but Sandy PD is going to laugh at me and look at me cross eyed
-Return the charger, say its the wrong one for your phone and it wont work.
-Leave the phone at the doorstep of the house that wouldn't open their door. Inside a brown paper bag. filled with turd. Lit on fire.
Or run over it, then return it. "It must've been behind the pumper, because I found it all flattened and runned-over and stuff."
Taking it to the police is the right thing to do but that'll take the tea bag option off the table. :(
I only said keep it because I hate pregnant dogy people. I'm sure there's some force out there that will deal with pregnant dogy people. I don't think we are that force.
If you do mail it, mail it COD.

COD stands for Cash On Delivery....
Is sounds like you are on the right track...
Take a look at ORS (Oregon Revised Statute) 164.065 Theft of lost, mislaid property.

There's something called the finders claim law. You got to jump through some hoops, but should be able to get the phone all legal like. :)

I'm pretty sure they do. I've seen plenty of UPS packages with COD printed on the labels. But maybe it's only for commercial account? IDK.

even though it is a GSM (sim) phone, the phone has a unique IMEI number and if it is reported as stolen, they will find you right away..
