Anyone going to the race in Sept? If the weather is planed to be nice I'm bringing a trailer. I should be able to fit 2 more bikes on.
Stillie and I are going and will be in the Project Mugello seats.
Zooom and I are riding out.
I'm thinking about it. Hopefully I'll have the cash and my wife can get the time off.
Trailer?? Silly Yuppie Trailers are for Boats! I'm riding to the event, I know a few roads between here and Dayton, Oh - after that well.... it's not far Thankfully. - Gene

And couples where one half is a broke racer who doesn't have a streetbike. ;D
I'm a wus, my ass won't like me after a 10+ hour ride out there. Plus I just not set up for long distance touring. My wife is getting her license this year so it wouldn't be the best of ideas to have her ride out also.
I was hearing the Project Mugello seats weren't going to be the best. I'm still in a toss up between getting those or something else. The price for those is the best part but I still want good seats. What are y'alls thoughts?
I thought seriously about the project Mugello seats and thought for a moment that the only advantage for me is to be closer to the pits and amidst the Ducati Island antics...I can use the walking to get around as I am not the slender man I once was...so I had no problem with the idea of walking around to see and hear and experience more, as apposed to getting sucked into a Ducati only world that might be hard to get out of otherwise...motivationally speaking anyways...and then I looked at track layout and thought also about what I want to see out of the bikes...I want to see them dice and turn and power out and so I chose "H" stand seating and am happy with that choice...especially after talking to a buddy here at work who is also going who has been there for F-1 cars in the past and he agrees with me and will be in the same stand...

I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm still in a toss up between H or SW Vista. I'm mainly considering the SW Vista cause you can see them come down the straight into the chicane and it's still close to everything... I'm lazy and I'm proud of it!
I had H, based on extensive research - but at the end of the day it is abput the experience for me, I had some of the best seats at all the tracks in Europe for 2 years when King Kenny kicked some butt, and also Fast Freddie when he won his first GP at SPA, it was great but I'm betting being with a bunch of Ducasti on this special day at Indy will be worth it, so I gave up my H seats. Naturally I will record the thing as well, and of course this all asummes the damn weather cooperates. - Gene
Ooooooo...are pitbikes allowed??.....LOL
Dolci brought up a valid point though....half of the experience as I was saying before was being out and about and looking at everything as far as peoples and things....so it is an entire experience and not just a Ducati centric one which can be easily acheived if you stay in the Ducati Island Vortex
I just got my tickets for the H section. My conscience wouldn't let me just lie and say I was a member of a club.
I just bought my tickets, GA only. I hear scalpers sell the towers on the cheep before most Indy races. If not nabd.

They did ask who the club prez is, so you can't just say you are. But I'm sure you could have asked someone. [evil]

ya and all the presidents are listed on the ducati clubs site. I just couldn't do it in good faith. I'll still be around though :)
I am headed there for the race too. I have been attending the F1 GP for the past few years. I grew up near Indy, so I am very familiar with it. I always purchase tickets off of scalper about an hour before the race.

I'm going, and I think playing chase/support vehicle for Zoom and company.

Sane is such a subjective thing...

On average above of below ticket price?
Usually at below face value prices. You have to haggle. They are usually trying to dump tickets off at that point, and have already made their profit off of early sales.

Hi there,
I just decided to make the trip to Indy for the Moto GP race from Washington DC. I will go alone so getting the best experience possible will be a priority. I wanted to know if any of you can give me some tips as to what tickets to get, best areas to watch from and other information that may be useful. I do not know if the general public has any kind of limited access to the paddocks or the area around them. Is there a ticket that allows that? Is there a ticket that allows access to the Ducati Island? If one sits on the outside of the track, can one goes to the inner field?
Sorry to bother you with so many questions but I plan on spending most the time at the track and want to know what will be available to me with the different tickets.
Thanks,
CrazyIvan and I are trailering out...I'll be lucky if I have my M by then, and the 1098 isn't exactly conducive to long-distance riding. Besides, we'll be playing crash truck for Zooom and Dolci. :)
I CAN'T WAIT!!! :D
We need DMF shirts for the MotoGP! [thumbsup]

I didn't forget her...just not sure what her handle on this forum is, and I was trying to ID people via that method. :)

she's not on here
With it being the first year of MotoGP at Indy I am not certain how things are going to work. If it is similar to the F1 races that are ran there, you have access to almost all seating areas on practice and qualifying days. You have a designated seat on race day. The best seat is a matter of opinion, but popular vote would probably say stands H and J. I say at the very top, so that you can catch a breeze if it is a hot day.
I am certain that just being at that race, sitting about anywhere will be fun though.

So there are no pit/paddock passes available as of yet? Is this correct?
Also, has anyone heard of Red Bull VIP event like they have at Laguna?
Quote from: Tim on August 19, 2008, 02:26:24 PMNot sure where our tickets are for the actual race day itself; they are on the way and I should have them by Friday.
I was wondering that myself - I got my parking pass last week, but no ticket. Anyone know if the Ducati stand is being handled differently? I have friends who did get their (non-Duc) tickets the other day.

Hi there, I got my Mugello tickets and will be flying in Friday at 7:00am. Is anybody driving with their bike in a trailer? Any room for an extra bike? I would love to take advantage of the free lap of the circuit that comes with the Mugello ticket. Can't wait for that weekend!!

My girlfriend surprised me the other day with a pair of tickets! I am so stoked! Not about the drive though.

haha, join the club. At least it didn't rain today.
It did today [bang]
Yeah, we're still driving. Note to self... never attempt this drive immediately following the races!!! This is the only part that sucks.
You kids all dried out yet?

the 100 MPH wind did a great job drying me our on the walk back to the car [thumbsup] Plus I didn't have to turn the steering weel to move to the left lane on 65 ;D I saw some bikes going about 70 each gust of wind would blow then from the far left onto the shoulder :o
I had a pretty good time up until we noticed the oil coming out of the SXV on Saturday. I'm too tired to fix it this afternoon because we got in just before 4am this morning. That didn't stop me from smoking that interview a couple of hours ago. ;D
Will probably try to diagnose the SXV tomorrow and prep the SV.
It was incredible and well worth the rain. Yay for Coast Guard issue rain gear!!! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

I was getting stared at every time I stopped on the way home, my face is so red. After riding (swimming) out from Chicago on Friday, the last thing I thought about on Saturday was sunscreen - until about half-way through MotoGP qualifying when it occurred to me my arms and face had that funny feeling.
It was a peculiar sensation riding back to Chicago on Sunday after the GPs - the wind kept trying to blow me off the highway, it was pouring rain, chilly, and I had a sunburn.
Next best part was when the Interstate flooded and we had to detour, in the dark, down a two lane unlit blacktop road, with at least 4 instances of washouts we had to ride through. As we'd blasjt along at 70 I kept thinking, "I sure hope they don't miss one of these flooded spots or forget to put up a sign".
i also scored a speeding ticket on the way home. 10 min. after getting into va of course.
It was definitely worth the trip.
We left Indy on Monday morning after spending most of Sunday night in the hot tub and wandering downtown trying to agree on a place for dinner (note to self - do not to to Houlihan's again). After the Bday party, that had to be the worst ever.
Arrived in Mineral Wells, WV after a windy, twisty bit of a detour down 14 (Parkersburg Sheriffs have no idea of directions).
Sat in the hot tub again and after a leisurely breakfast on Tuesday morning, we left for Maryland around 10:30.
