Title: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 19, 2008, 09:05:41 AM Hey guys, what is everyone's plans for the holidays? Alex and I have been wanting to through a get-together/shindig at the new pad, but there is NO WAY it will be set up in time for Turkey Day. So with that in mind, who is anyone doing the whole Christmas thing without family obligations (Tristan and Jen)? ;)
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: teddy037.2 on November 19, 2008, 01:14:50 PM like xmas day throwdown? I could be in.
depends on the hangover. it's tough work drinking for an entire month. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 19, 2008, 03:38:19 PM like xmas day throwdown? Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 19, 2008, 07:08:36 PM that span from thanksgiving to new year is not my happiest time of the year. You have a happy time of the year? [cheeky] like xmas day throwdown? I could be in. Could be something like that. Some food along with some wine and other tasty beverages... Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: teddy037.2 on November 19, 2008, 07:45:42 PM i suppose it's relative
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on November 19, 2008, 08:27:45 PM we could probably host something x-mas like. Remembering, of course, that Jen is Jewish and I am non-religious, so the 'x-mas' name is truly fit [thumbsup]
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 19, 2008, 10:40:48 PM Well, the point was that we were wanting to have a half house-warming half random reason to have people over and drink night at our new pad around x-mas. I, like you, don't really believe in celebrating Christmas so to speak, so there wouldn't be any God stuff involved, just food and drink.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 19, 2008, 10:50:54 PM I'm all for a Christmas season type party with you folks. I'll even make Gloria come along!! As for the God part, I'm a rational Christian. I know that this whole season started off as a pagan holiday, etc., etc.. I don't preach and everyone is welcome to their own belief or non-belief as far as I'm concerned. So I say let's have at it with all the good food & drink & music that we can stand for one weekend night somewhere in Dec. It's the fellowship that really counts!
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 19, 2008, 10:52:50 PM It's the fellowship that really counts! Eggzactly!! Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: teddy037.2 on November 20, 2008, 01:02:00 AM it's getting a lil'smarmy in here.

I think that all sounds fine. Smarmy or otherwise [cheeky]
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 21, 2008, 02:50:38 PM maybe I'm out. i've got a feeling this is going to be a horrible season for me :-\ You can make whatever you will out of this season. That's no idle or overused cliche'. There will be some good stuff and some bad stuff. I've just had some near unimaginable bad stuff dumped next to me that'll put a damper on the season but I still plan to make the best of it. Two people who are pretty close to me just got the news that they have cancer. Life will go on and we still plan on having good parties with them this season, chemo or not. Best of luck to you. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: teddy037.2 on November 21, 2008, 11:36:27 PM I'm much in the same boat, but I wish I shared your optimism

Life will go on and we still plan on having good parties with them this season, chemo or not. Best of luck to you. WOW! Really sorry to hear that Rick! They both got the news at the same time? Mind if I ask where the cancer is located? My mom fought cancer for just over 30 years and went through chemo three times. How "late" was theirs when diagnosed? Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 22, 2008, 09:54:32 AM Not at the same time for both. One just got the news two days ago and I don't know all the details except that it involves lymph nodes and might be in the early stages. Another has been fighting for a bit, thought they had it licked but has to go back for more treatment. Still another has been fighting for over 5 years now, I think, when initially was only given less than a year. You never know but it doesn't look good at the moment for the 5 year fighter. All in the same tight group of friends and family.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on November 22, 2008, 11:24:32 AM I'm much in the same boat, but I wish I shared your optimism I know it's cheesy and the last thing a bummed out dude wants to hear at the time, but optimism really is a choice. I'm no optimist, of course, but I can generally just force myself to think about what I'm doing, and try to keep what I'm doing positive. Yeah, yeah, I'll shut up now. ;D Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 22, 2008, 12:04:17 PM Not at the same time for both. All in the same tight group of friends and family. My mom's started out in the musculature around the junction of her neck and tongue. It stayed there for many years (off and on), then radicalized and moved into her lymph nodes and finally her lungs amongst other places. There were quite a few times when the doctors gave my mom a short time-span, but were then proven wrong. Like you said, you never know how these things are going to turn out and a positive (all things considered) outlook on it can sometimes be the best medicine. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 27, 2008, 09:41:46 PM The Blue Eyed Boy did not go down tonight. It remains uncorked so we still have at least one bottle for the Desmotropic Christmas shindig. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 27, 2008, 11:25:28 PM SWEET!! I've got a few bottles of that Medoc that I am saving as well. Don't know how the wine will go down with the white russian theme though... Guess we will have to [wine] and see.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 30, 2008, 11:02:57 AM What would you guys think about having the Desmotropic holiday party on Dec. 27th? I have a major Christmas party to attend on the 20th and it's not even the BME party.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 30, 2008, 11:09:06 AM I will have to see what Alex's schedule will allow. Right now she is scheduled for Fridays and Sundays off, but that might change after Xmas. One thing though, her b'day is the 19th (and I know Jen's is somewhat close to that), so maybe we can do a combined b'day (for Alex, Jen and Jesus) soire'e then?
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on November 30, 2008, 01:03:58 PM i am open to anything, and can probably take just about any day off.
probably. this this is jen's 40th, so i have to do something good for her. i'm taking her skydiving on the 22nd (i think) if anyone is interested. oh, and she doesn't know that yet, so keep yer pie holes shut ;D Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on November 30, 2008, 10:07:48 PM Great! Are you going out the door with her or are you just going to watch?
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on November 30, 2008, 11:25:14 PM Great! Are you going out the door with her or are you just going to watch? Probably just watch... from the ground. I've never been able to consider the idea without my brain automatically going to the dead scenario. Besides, someone's gotta hold the camera. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on December 10, 2008, 11:00:09 PM How about this..... basically the wives like their birthdays to special about them ... as efficient as we men tend to think combining motorcycle parties, holiday parties, etc. with their birthdays might be it's not really a wise decision no matter how clever we might think it is ---- trust me on this one guys.
So I propose a party on the 27th... or even better on the first Saturday after New Years. I think that would make it the 3rd of Jan. I believe. That way we would be outside the DUI checkpoint season. We could have a combo housewarming, holiday, bike group, semi-send off all at once. How would that be? If I brought cigars, would the neighbors object? And who all would smoke them? If that's a pass then we could stick to simply drinking and eating and drinking. [beer] [wine] [beer] [wine] Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 10, 2008, 11:36:05 PM I don't think anyone would object to cigars being smoked in the back/front yard at all, just don't want them in the house. ;)
The newly proposed plan sounds workable I guess with the exception that Alex's birthday is on the 19th, and she actually liked the idea of having folks over for that. I will run the new idea past her and see what she thinks... Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on December 11, 2008, 06:08:22 PM nothing say we can't still do a double b-day bash on the 19th, eh?
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 11, 2008, 06:39:57 PM PERFECT!! I still like that plan. ;)
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on November 27, 2009, 01:31:20 PM Bringing this one back from the dead. Wanted to see who was doing what for X-mas. Anybody feel like having a get-together with drinks, smokes and such?

Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on December 01, 2009, 08:18:21 PM At some point, sure. We already have like three holiday requirements, what with Jen actually being home and having the birthday then and all. I'll watch this space.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 01, 2009, 08:22:06 PM Well, I have a mostly empty (as far as people goes) house to do something with. I assume that I will be here on the island for xmas, but might try to make a last minute dash so to... Well, you get the picture.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on December 03, 2009, 04:55:31 PM Picture mostly gotted.
Space still watched. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 03, 2009, 05:28:50 PM Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions? If not, guess it will have to be here again this year. Jeesh, where are you guys going to shindig after I leave in May?
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on December 03, 2009, 05:33:01 PM Well, nobody wants to do anything at Hale Hinkley cause it's tiny, the parking sucks, and it smells of elderberries.
We should just book a suite at the Halekulani and get silly, then throw up on the Concierge. Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 03, 2009, 05:34:34 PM Parking isn't all that great here either, but I've got plenty of room for peoples... Need to go and get at least another bedroom set so folks can crash without sleeping on the sofa with Darmah.
Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: eltristo on December 04, 2009, 05:48:37 AM That seems.... excessive. Aren't you moving to a (likely) 1 BR place in DC?

Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: MadDuck on December 25, 2009, 08:17:10 AM Merry Christmas folks! It's still light rain over here with slick and junk everywhere roads. Not good for anything on two wheels unless you are die hard, hard core and don't mind the clean up. Forecast says it might be drier tomorrow esp. in the afternoon.
It's a loosy, goosy Christmas and I have no idea how the day is going to go. Just going with the flow. But, it is Christmas and, to whatever degree of anything, it's all good. Cheers! Title: Re: DT Holiday Thread Post by: DRKWNG on December 25, 2009, 08:44:09 AM Yes yes, Happy Christmas!!
Got the pets their Crimbo vittels this morning and now they are fat dumb and happy. Darmah got her a new bone and the two cats got some toys, that I hope to keep away from Darmah.
