I always say the entire name when mention Ducati. Pardon my ignorance and I apologize if there were already threads on this but how do you pronounce Duc? Is it Duck or Duke?
Silly me.. [popcorn]
quack.
unless you're discussing a ktm. then it's the John Wayne pronunciation.
"bike"
I use Duc or Ducati.
I think you should say it any way you like. I call mine 'headlight doesn't work' and my friend's 'hard to start'. But mine is cause I'm lazy, and his is cause it's awesome.
My wife refers to the Ducati as the "Italian Mistress"
Well heck, that's a phunny question. Why isn't PHONETIC spelled the way it sounds? Would be spelt fonetik?
Some things we just weren't meant to know. [bang] , others we just guess at . ??? ??? phonê .... It's a Greek thing -
But there's no mistake here ....... It's DUCK ................. like Donald and Daffy and Dangerous .............. like the one in the garage. ;D [moto] ;D
LA
It's Duck. KTM screwed things up when they introduced the Duke (I had one, btw...no comparison to my Duck).
So do you say:
/dook - AH - tee/
or
/duk - AH - tee/
???
Who cares???
As long as you know it's not a SooZooKee ;D

Because, you're asking a group of people who cry when a company logo changes.
Because, you're asking a group of people who cried when the 696 ushered in a new generation of Monster.
Because, you're asking a group of people who need to know how to pronounce "Duc" as much as they need to know how to pronounce "latte" while they are prancing in their Dainese leathers in front of the Starbucks crowd and trying to convince the world that they are better than riders of other brands of bikes. (Reference above post) :)
Because, you're asking a group of people who criticize Harley-Davidson quirkiness as crappy American engineering while at the same time praise Ducati quirkiness as Italian passion.

You are SO RIGHT! I'm trading it all in for a Jap sportbike and Icon riding gear! That way I can do MADDDD STOPPEEEEZ and finally be appreciated for it!
(For the record, the Ducati people I've met have almost all been shockingly civil and bullsh*t-free compared to every other bike crowd I've hung out with.)

In some parts of the world they say Duke, in the US the common pronunciation is Duck. A little like long a or short a in tomato.

I had thought when someone refers to a Ducati as a DUCK, it's usually derogatory - as in "You yellow duck is naked."

I realy don`t care, as long as it pulls more chicks than a harley I am happy ;D
It is definitely pronounced duck around here. Dook in Britian.
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that is pronounced dook that is worth a shit, is the mayonnaise.

Dear Abby,
I belong to a Ducati Monster Forum, but according to one member's description I don't fit the profile.
Should I trade in my Monster 696 and get a scooter?
Signed,

My last post must have impressed the teacher A-LOT!!
It has to be Duc or i would be Geoffduke [bow_down] instead of Geoffduc and i'm just not worthy [roll]
Maybe it's "Duke" when it whups the other bikes in a comparison test and "Duck" when it can't keep up with newer technology.

As mentioned before it seems to depend on what side of the pond you come form.
When I first got my Duc here I looked puzzled at people when they spoke of Ducks...
All I do is say 'Ducati' without the 'ati'

Again depends on where you are from, Duke is not pronounced the same as Duc in the UK.

Feng Shui. ;)
In American, it is Duck
In English, Aussie, or the other funny accented version of American ;D, it is Duke
At least that is what i noticed. when someone refers to a bike as a Duck, im almost 100% sure it is short for ducati. When i hear duke, im 70% sure they mean ducati and 30% sure they are referring to a KTM. I have both phonetic pronunciations refer to a ducati though.
thats interesting...
when i hear someone refer to a "duke", i immediately think of the KTM...

It's a Japanese company, so I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be "Show - ai" ("ai" like what Fonze says)
But Americans can pretty much bastardize the pronunciation of anything. ;D

Seeing as to how that school isn't associated with the mayo, I'd have to say that it falls into the "not worth a shit" catagory.
And I've always pronounced Duc as "duck".
I always say Duck... like the sound they make sitting at the light in neutral... "duckduckduckduck"

And while this doesn't mean jack, here in Japan it's pronounced doh-ka-tee.
I can also get away with making the sounds "whaoooom! whaooooom!" in an obnoxious way and people know what I'm talking about.
