i have a new years day ride going from south bay down to carmel.  grab burgers @ the hogs breath for lunch.

we are meeting in los gatos @ the peet's coffee (798 Blossom Hill Rd) @ 9am. then will ride up 17 to old santa cruz highway, then up old santa cruz to skyline, then down san jose/capitola road to 1. capitola meeting time, 10am @ AJ's Fuel Market of Capitola‎ (36 Bay Ave.),  then 1 south to carmel.

hope you (and other MOBsters) can make it.

i will be driving up from carmel to the south bay at the same time.  have a good ride down. 

Wow...that'd be a 250 mile day for me, much of it on slab. Lemme think about it and see if anyone wants to take a shorter jaunt that day.

we can make the ride down from capitola all back roads, if that will make it more tolerable for you.  there are some cool twisties that go the back way into carmel from capitola.

well, i offered cheese to go along with all the whining from the local hypertard owners over this ride to carmel ... "too far" ... "my ass will hurt" ... "i don't like freeway speeds" ... what a bunch of wimps.  :P

so ... revised plan to keep the little monkeys happy ... we ride over to capitola for brunch.

the los gatos ride will be a little stretch of 17/880, then old santa cruz highway, then 35, then san jose/soquel road into soquel, and grab some food @ cafe lucio, if they are open.

YES, but 99% sure i will be face down in the dirt.

For those from SF, will this be a fast ride or a hung over ride?

It'll vary. In general, our rides have one golden rule: ride at a pace at which you're comfortable and in control. The faster folks will gladly wait to regroup at turns & other strategic points.

I rode FastElvis' hypertard and having experienced the seat, I'm with your monkeys. It makes the original monster seat feel like a barcalounger.

Which part of that is gravel?  Looking for a nice ride to Carmel, as little highway as possible, but I'm not sure how well the gravel part would go over. 

Question for everyone: would anyone be willing to have DucMouse ride cupcake? Or, maybe, is there a short bike she might ride? The Bumblebee is waaaaay to high.

 Drop eviltwin a line. His GF (R6diva on BARF) is a teeny tiny thing. She's got her old R6 and her new 675 Daytona. Both bikes are set on the short side.

 I think they're going to a party NYE, but they'd probably be up for joining the ride.

Okay, I'm in. I hope no one minds I invited a friend who rides an older Yamaha. This way I won't feel so lonely in the back.

We're going south, so no. Zeitgeist->Los Gatos is the first leg, probably on slab.

I can bring some Sudafed to clear any congestion and Ibuprofen for aches. Sorry, nothing prescription.

When I got in my accident, the ER doc wrote for vicodin and ibuprofen. But the discharge pharmacy only gave me ibuprofen. At my subsequent visit for my surgery consult, I told them I never got my vicodin. Got a prescription when I left so now I thought I was set. I was finally feeling less discomfort taking both. My friend said I sounded high when she called. Turned out my original ibuprofen prescription was filled with vicodin, so I was doubling up on vico. Whooohooo! ;D

If it's as foggy tomorrow morning as it was this morning, I'd recommend against your ride. :P

So is Darvocet. [thumbsup] Really helped with a recent bout of Sciatica.

Having driven 14 hours yesterday, I'm going to skip this one.  :P  ( + my bike is in 14 pieces still from ad-ons. )

The ride was so-so. Between the low temps and fog, we froze on the way to Los Gatos (note to self: stay off the peninsula in winter).

sfarchie, Alfonso and I met up at Zeitgeist...Then we met up with my friend Eric (R1200 GS) at Peet's, then went up 9. A few turns out of Saratoga, Eric low-sided on a double-apex left hander. I was right behind him, and felt it was slippery so I slowed way down. Eric's rear wheel had been sliding (he didn't notice, but I had been watching it), and he picked up the pace way too soon...on a wet road with cold tires. He slid off the road, into some gravel, and his bike hit the guard rail. Eric was fine, but his GS was hurting. As far as we could tell:

• Scraped cylinder head guard
• Broken windshield and mount
• Missing front brake reservior
• Broken handguard
• Broken GPS
• Bruised German ego

Eric's bike still had brakes (I think the GS has a shutoff or one-way valve between the reservoir and the master cylinder), so he decided to limp it home to San Bruno. The rest of us, including a dirt biker on an XR650, continued to Alice's...dogging it the entire way because of the slippery roads.

There was actually sun on top of parts of the ridgeline, but by the time we got to Alice's it was still pea soup...maybe 50 feet of visibility. We had lunch, let it clear up a bit, then eased it back down 84 to 101.

Glad to at least get out today.

I lost my virginity twice today! First one is I can finally say I participated in a MOB ride! Second, today was my first time going over 100 mph! Thanks to Joe and Alfonso for being there to help me lose both virginities.  [thumbsup]

The morning was cold, wet, and foggy. Perhaps a sign we shouldn't go riding? Then, unfortunately, Eric low sided within a few minutes of leaving Peet's. Good news is he's fine. His BMW got a little bruising, but the cage did it's job protecting his bike from major damage. A second sign we shouldn't go riding?  ??? Okay, for my first real ride, I was wondering if I should just turn back and go home. But I stuck it out and we just went down to Alice's from Los Gatos. We briefly enjoyed the blue skies, but that turned into thick fog. After lunch and some rest, we headed home.

Thanks, Joe & Alfonso for making me feel welcomed! [thumbsup] And thanks for waiting up for me on the way to Alice's. I'm no where near the level of experience you guys are at so I'm greatful you guys still made me feel welcomed.

Let's stick to the north bay next time. ;)

It had more to do with dumb riding than anything else.

I wasn't referring to the crash, just you guys being cold and miserable in the fog.

It's a MOB-organized ride, advertised on the forum, open to all MOBsters and has meet-up points and everything.  It counts.  You meet up with a coupla random friends for a weekend ride and one of 'em goes down?  Doesn't count.

Glad to hear he's ok.

Oh, and sfarchie, if you get that "should I just go home" feeling, that's a sign to turn around.  Many of us have done exactly that when we got a sense that all might not be ok.  It screws up your ride, but there are always other rides.

Sucks that the first ride y'all went on ended up with someone on the side of the road btw.  As Shakespeare might have said in his day, "That doth bloweth." 

I guess Spidey has a point:  it's a MOB ride; it's a MOB crash. 

Sadly, this isn't a record, Michael.  A couple of years ago a gal that works at Motojava (Maria?) crashed on New Years Day.

Yeah.  The idea is that you make folks aware and culpable for their actions.  If  I didn't do the crash ticker, you probably wouldn't know about most of the accidents that go on in our little group.  We have a lot of crashes for how small we are.  It's not to shame anyone, hence its anonymity. 

I hear ya. When I feel that 6th sense kick in, I won't ride. Funny, with the weather report from somegirl, then johnc having bike problems, I began wondering if I should cancel. Even after Eric went down, I wondered, but I didn't feel that 6th sense so I went on. Believe me, I become the biggest pansy when I get this funk. BTW, the first time I had this was the night I got hit by the limo. I didn't listen to it then...

I thought it was Marija's boyfriend Chris? I'll have to ask her today.

I talked to Eric yesterday afternoon, and he's absolutely fine. The bike looks like it has less than $1k of damage (with all the gadgets and bling on the BMW, that's pretty low). He rides in Baja and on the dirt a lot, so this crash rates as no big deal for him.


I know the feeling. I was a bit spooked after Eric crashed, and I was inclined to head home, at least to make sure Eric made it back to his house. But Eric insisted that we press on, and Alfonso said that we should press on so we did. The mc cop also said the road dried out up ahead. It turned out to be kind of fun. Still plenty of people at Alice's, and a decent ride up the ridgeline...even with the pea soup.

You might be right.  I thought it was Marija herself.
