I was at my dealer and they had an S on the floor.
It's higher to sit on, but still need the other seat. For my heart, it still does (almost) nothing, but that's not important.
I noticed an exhaust valve - it's there to pass noice tests - probably first thing to go. It has two O2 sensors.
Not much more to say - just wanted you guys to see what I've seen.

Going to go see one tonight at the dealer here in town. Mostly to just get out of the house, as I'm not really keen on the new bike. Maybe in the flesh it will be better.

Don't get your hopes up :-\
It's probably a great ride though [thumbsup]
There appears to be a substantial improvement in fit and finish...virtually no visible wires or connectors. I like it.
i like the wheels, forks, brakes. Swing arm is butt ugly though.
I still don't like the frame [puke]

I wonder where they got that idea. ;)
That thing is just screaming for an aftermarket rearset. I really don't care for the one piece front and rear pegs.
they look so fischer price now.
what happened?
I just had the 1-piece sets on my 696 painted black (along w/ heat shields, exhaust hangers, headlight trim, etc.). Helps the look a lot. I wanted to keep passenger pegs, so no aftermarket rearsets as yet.
I saw it at IMS and I liked it. But again, I like/own a M696 so ...
the frame and rear sets are deal killers for me..........still
Just saw one at my dealer. It was custom painted (not online for the challenge) with some really nice mods done. I actually really liked it surprisingly. Of course it wasn't stock but most of us change stuff anyway. The only real problem I had with it was the rearsets and exhaust but I can see past that :)
+1 on the rearsets.. do love the instrument panel.
I can't get over that subframe. Why did they do that? And the swingarm. The whole bike has a real parts-bin special to it. I know they didn't get the gold wheels from the Tri-color run, but that's what I think when I see them.
Frame and tank look bulbous! Yuk! I'm glad I don't like it... Saves me money.

From the reviews, the electronic exhaust valve is there for improved torque in the low end and midrange.
If you were to toss it, the results might be disappointing.
Overall, at least from an engineering standpoint, the bike is a significant evolutionary advancement from the current and previous generations of Monster. From that standpoint, I'm liking it a lot.
Admittedly, it has departed from tradition in a number of regards, but the result in virtually every respect is superior tech, which translates into a superior, more modern, more capable bike.
Perhaps I'm blessed in the sense that I'm not a current or prior Monster owner, so I'm not as, um, constrained in Monster tradition as some others, so to speak.
When I look at the new Monster 1100, I see a really great bike, still embodied with large, satisfying doses of Ducati engineering.
It's definitely on my short list.
Here are lots of shots out in the open..

My dealer told me what Ducati told him - I think it's true that it's there to pass noise tests, but maybe at the same time does a second duty of supplying back pressure. It will be interesting to see which challenges the un-Termi exhaust manufacturers will have to overcome.

[laugh] [laugh] [thumbsup] A very positive and alternative way of putting it, but are you sure you're not also a little sad?

Ha, you've got me pegged! An S2R1K is also on my very short list, LOL!
By way of explanation, I haven't ridden since my '75 Norton hit the asphalt and got badly bent (but I still rode it home!), but the wifey has told me that as soon as I get her car paid off (this is its last year of payments) I'm free to get another bike. I'll prolly get a Monster, but if the factory improves on the GT1000 wheels/suspension in the next year or so, I may consider that -- the cockpit feels almost exactly like my old Norton. I've seen one with a set of Staintune reverse-cone megaphones, and it sure was tugging on my heart strings!
QuoteFor my heart, it still does (almost) nothing,
+1 from the Canadian judge on that one ;D
As someone here already said...."at least from an engineering standpoint, the bike is a significant evolutionary advancement from the current and previous generations of Monster...." but I still hate the new bike.
I know it will outperform the original design but I can't get past the
"Mad Max meets Fischer-Price" look of the thing. Somehow the old style was more than the sum of its parts.
I wonder if S*R rearsets would fit this? Look at how it mounts...

MotoWheels are working on those for the 696, need to fab some spacers and stuff.

I don't know if 696 and 1100 are the same, but I'm sure MotoWheels soon will know. Give them a call?

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. I've tried to like it, really tried, but I can't get past the obnoxious, trendy styling cues that Ducati seems to embrace these days.
one of the dealers (Ducati Indy) did install what I think was a set of Rizoma's for the dealer "challenge", removing the wings.
