Trying to go with the SeaBees?

Trying to get someplace interesting and stay away from JAX, Norfolk and San Diego.

I'd really prefer OCONUS orders. We'll see how it works out. Worst case I'm sure I could end up with a P-3 squadron out of Whidbey. Go poke Mother with a stick.

Uh... check my profile, dude. That's where I am.  ;)

They're closing the base in 2011. In the mean time, people here on sea orders are shipping out on det with the squadrons and then when the squadrons come back to the sates they're just going straight to Jacksonville.

I'm up for sea orders, but again, if I take orders here I'll end up in JAX and that's not a very attractive option.

Seriously! WTF, NAKID? Everyone knows you bubbleheads make serious bank. The rest of us want to see Stew's project, too. Quit being selfish!  >:(

Wow. I don't know if its because I'm a squid, too, or what, but I find it waaaay too easy to bust your chops. Please don't take any offense, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. For serious.  [thumbsup]

P.S. I'm also kinda drunk.

Drunk on POWER AT2!

Hahahaha

Not exactly making serious bank yet. I am Sub qualified, but the real money comes in a year when I graduate and get to my first boat.

Right now, $375 a month Sub pay. Then, sea pay $180, plus Pro pay $375. After 6 months on the boat, my sea pay will go up to $280 or so...

Anyway, If I pay you $10k to finish the bike, I expect to get something out of it Stu....

VR-55 in Pt Mugu. (C-130s) Those orders count for sea time. Lots of dets, moslty westpac stuff, but you could get a mission to anywhere. And if you are aircrew, prepare to almost be living out of your overnight bag.

The only orders I could find for Point Mugu were for VAW 116. I put in for them twice and didn't get them either time.

Is that a Hawkeye Squadron?

I did, however, get Sea OpDet orders to MCAS Beaufort, SC, which as far as I'm concerned is just as good. Yeah, I'll be on the boat when they go out, but what the hell? I did join the Navy, after all.

Back on topic, Stu: what's going on with the CR? Any progress to report? Unveiling at WCDIMBY?

Is that an ASW outfit?

Stu are you doing a SSS Mod on this thing?

VAW 116 (http://www.cacclw.navy.mil/vaw116/) is a Hawkeye squadron.

Beaufort is USMC Harriers and F-18's, and a Navy F-18 Squadron.

The wing is a good way to do a carrier deployment. You'll have the "oh, you're not ship's company?" but really, you have a better schedule than ship's company...

As an AT I can see the appeal in a Hawkeye SQ.

As a Previous AD I can see the appeal of a HERC SQ.  :D

Plus I won't spend my non-deployment months standing watch on the pier.  :P

I got lucky enough to find a billet with my NEC. Even among Trons, we IFF techs are regarded as kind of "special."

What is your watch?

While on the carrier, I stood MDDO (Medical Department Duty Officer).

On the Sub, I won't have a watch per se, I'm "on duty" 24/7. But, eventually I will qualify COW (Chief of the Watch).

Our baby Doc stands watch on the pier or the QD. Our Doc is a Section Leader.

I have no problem being on a ship. I did join the Navy.

Hey Chris, you take the Chief's exam? It was an interesting day.

When I used to stand watch, we were supposed to go out on the flight line and make sure nobody was messing with the planes. They equiped us with a Flashlight, a nitestick, and a whistle. After a while I decided that if I saw anything happening out there, I would just call Base security, if I wasn't already dead.

When I left the boat they were making COW a requirement for E-6 and above and DOOW for E-7 and above.  I won't be back on a boat until Feb '10

I'll be back up at Sub School in Sep.  I should know where I am headed at that point, though it will probably change 5 times before I leave.  I'll have to catch up with you for a ride in the fall.

They should have the Escape trainer up by then. It's been down for about a year and a half because the dumbasses demo'd the old one before they built the new one. Even though it was at a different location....

I dont mean to thread jack but this does have somethig to do with the Naval maybe someone can help me out. I will try to keep the story short. A friend of a friends father passed away years ago he was in the Navy. I use to do repairs and other handyman type things for the widow and she would pay me by giving me some of his old tools for each project, a simple trade to save her money. Anyway I got a cabinet with drill bits and what not in it but under one  of the drawers when I removed it there was a USNR dog tag. The widow has since moved so I cannot ask her any questions to se if she knew him.
What I would like to do is try to find this guy to see if hes still alive or at least give it to one of his family members. Ive tried internet searches and even went into a recruiting station but they were young and had no idea what to do, any suggestions? I dont know if the numbers on the tag could help in an online search or not, I have no idea what they stand for. I understand the personal info probably cant be given out so if there was somewhere I could send it and they could take it from there that would work also.
Thanks

Call the recruiting station back and ask if any of them are members of a website called Together We Served. (http://navy.togetherweserved.com/usn/index.jsp) If none of them are, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

First off this whole thread is a threadjack. It got moved from another tread you see. Depending on how old those dog tags are, the Numbers could either be a serial number or a Social security number.

If you're still in the same area as the lady who gave you the tool box, I would take the dog tag to the local reserve center. They will probably be able to track down the owner or the family...

I was in the Navy a long time ago (seems like another lifetime).  MT2(SS), SSBN 608.  We were home ported in Pearl, but did our patrols out of Guam.
