There was a M695 thread on the old board, and i really enjoyed seeing what other people had done to their bikes -- so if it doesn't offend the other monster owners lets have one here, its really inspiring to see what your bike can look like in other peoples hands. The 695 thread was also a great resource when i was researching the bike, i read about a few common problems...etc so it might help a future owner out there.
I am looking into bar end mirror options right now, and probably will get rid of the side panels and look into getting the metal ring around the light painted black.
I'll start with my modest bike, please add yours.

also has
DP ecu and airbox
Ti Leo Vince low mounts
Cycle cat sliders
some nifty red stripes on the wheels.
white number plate stickers on the read cowl
crg L/S mirrors
Sargent seat
pazzo levers
rapid transit triple tree bag 833 w/ Duc cutters patch
next up, still debating if I want to chop the tail
find a set of adjustable forks and read suspension
powder coat fork legs black
replace stock rotors with brake tech irons and some new pads.
lighten up the nut behind the bars :D
Not mine, but I like the paint scheme & pipes on this 695.

Nope. The level of difficulty depends on your tolerance for clutter and cables. I cheated and used red-zip ties without moving anything. (The left side mess was already moved because of the shock...) Lots of folks have done a more thorough job of re-routing which no-doubt looks better up close.

Yup. When I had my 695, the paint on the front cylinder burned to black. They will replace it if you fight for it, I just had mine media blasted to take the crap paint off. Then I traded it in.

is this only an aesthetic thing, or is there more to this melting paint? Anyone have a picture of what it looks like when its melting (turned black), mine looks a tad dirty, but i just assumed it was just that- and warranty runs out in march....so it would be great to know.
thanks.

To me, it wasn't just an aesthetic thing. The paint on my engine was burning and my bike was running incredibly hot. I was hitting 300 degrees most days I was riding.
Theres some info on the old board about the 695s running hot and the engine paint burning. Some people, including myself, were trying to get oil coolers to fix the hot engine problem but DNA was content to just fix the aesthetics.
Let me add that some people are ok with 300 degrees. I was uncomfortable with that. YMMV.

I added the termi and ecu which has helped the bike run cooler, but now that you got it replaced whats to say it won't happen again? if possible i would still like to see examples of this engine burn.

Thats an awesome question. I traded in my 695 right after it got the paint media blasted off of the engine and sat for three months at the dealership with a complete gearbox failure so I can't answer that for you.
I don't think I have any pictures left of the engine paint burning but the old board has some pictures. Apparently you have to have an account to see them though and I'm sorry, but I'm not signing up for that place again.

Here's my example. Vertical cylinder near the exhaust port. Note the paint blobs in the second pic...paint melted, liquified, dropped onto the engine case below and hardened. I had both heads replaced with new parts under warranty, and on my own I added the DP ECU and an oil cooler. No further problems and bike runs real strong.

I'm on the fence about the burned paint.
My bike has it, but doesn't run at 300 degrees--250 or thereabouts is the highest I've seen it. The paint got what I can only describe as a "sugar burn" right away after I bought it, so I never thought it might be a symptom of anything other than a poor paint choice.
I suppose I should file a warranty claim and get it taken care of, but I'm not that jazzed about my bike being taken apart, and don't want bare aluminum cases, either.

Unless something changed recently, the current fix is to replace the entire cylinder head with a new one that already has better paint on it. No bare aluminum. There was also supposed to be a new ECU reflash to help it run cooler. My horizontal cylinder did the sugar burn thing that you mention, and I was running 260ish if I recall correctly, definitley not 300. The biggest pain is the potential downtime during the repair. I agree that it's mostly cosmetic.

The cover is still there, but I cut out the center part. This at least leaves the edges and front of the horizontal belt covered. I've had it this way for over 5,000 miles with no issues to date.

That's a beauty!
[gush mode]
Last Saturday I stopped by my local dealer to ask about a seal leak (turned out to be a clutch rod) and there was another 695 up on the lift getting a 7500 mile service. They let me watch for a bit and I was just enamored by the simplicity of our bikes--I think I could have put it back together even though I didn't see them pull the gas tank and the electrics.
Rode the bike all day and then commuted Wedneday; it just has great torque [moto] in morning traffic. Seals aside, it's been such a good bike; more fun than I'd hoped a Monster would be. [bow_down]
[end gush mode]
I also love those beltcovers with the center cut out but... My guess is, some/most of you, thanks to your climate, don't (have to) ride their bike in the rain. Or do you all spend as much time cleaning the bike as riding it ? I live in Belgium and as I use my bike almost everyday to ride to work I have to ride it in really pour weatherconditions during allmost whole winter. I don't think that beltcovers with the center worked out is a good idea then. I'll probably replace them by carbon ones someday. Anyway, here's my bike :

I replaced the original orange turn signal caps by clear ones, the mirrors are now Rizomas and I chopped the tail a bit. I've also got framesliders from Rizoma but they weren't mounted yet when I took these pictures. Next summer I'm gonna (already ordered) replace the stock mufflers by Termis with ECU and open airbox.
P.S. : Love this thread !
My cyllinders look like they hae burned sugar on it.
Any of you who've had the warranty replacement; did the cyllinders stay silver? Is there any carmelizing of the paint at all?
Still on the fence--but if I'm going to do it this winter, it'd have to be very soon--

A little Rizoma here and there and DP turn signals for starters.
Soon Termis or some others plus ECU..
And I am thinking of giving her the radical tail chop and add some fancy carbon...
Smoked LED lights too..
I will post pics when its in place... [popcorn]

I had both of my cylinder heads replaced on warranty... A month later they were totally brown again. I'd say if you're going to bother to get it taken care of, get the Termi kit or just the DP ECU, or an oil cooler first, that way your bike will run a little cooler and not trash your new heads. Otherwise it seems pretty pointless because the paint will melt again just like it did the first time!
Just did the Termi - DP ECU - airfilter mod. What a difference ! The handling at lower revs is so much better. Not even mention that sound ! Here's some pics. Next up are (other) framesliders. The Rizomas didn't work out for me. An other handlebar and other mirrors. These Rizomas look cool but visibility sucks big time.

Back in the day you could get "spy" glasses that were sun glasses with mirrors on the edge to see who was walking behind you.
