Yup. When I had my 695, the paint on the front cylinder burned to black. They will replace it if you fight for it, I just had mine media blasted to take the crap paint off. Then I traded it in.

is this only an aesthetic thing, or is there more to this melting paint? Anyone have a picture of what it looks like when its melting (turned black), mine looks a tad dirty, but i just assumed it was just that- and warranty runs out in march....so it would be great to know.

thanks.

To me, it wasn't just an aesthetic thing. The paint on my engine was burning and my bike was running incredibly hot. I was hitting 300 degrees most days I was riding.

Theres some info on the old board about the 695s running hot and the engine paint burning. Some people, including myself, were trying to get oil coolers to fix the hot engine problem but DNA was content to just fix the aesthetics.

Let me add that some people are ok with 300 degrees. I was uncomfortable with that. YMMV.

I added the termi and ecu which has helped the bike run cooler, but now that you got it replaced whats to say it won't happen again?  if possible i would still like to see examples of this engine burn.

Thats an awesome question. I traded in my 695 right after it got the paint media blasted off of the engine and sat for three months at the dealership with a complete gearbox failure so I can't answer that for you.

I don't think I have any pictures left of the engine paint burning but the old board has some pictures. Apparently you have to have an account to see them though and I'm sorry, but I'm not signing up for that place again.
