Yeeha... too bad that Sam Triple runs $5 per 8oz bottle... which actually isn't such a bad deal when I think about it.
I've only had 1 beer from his list, Stones 'Double Bastard' - anyone else get into this list?
Only 1 Barley Wine? ??? Seems just about every one made should be on the list. ;D
I've had these three:
The Abyss 11.00% USA Deschutes Brewery, Inc.
Pliny The Younger 11.00% USA Russian River Brewing Company
Imperial Stout 11.00% USA Rogue Ales Brewery / Brewer's on the Bay
But that list didn't have:
Doggie Claws (http://www.hairofthedog.com/doggie_claws_detail.html)
or
Fred (http://www.hairofthedog.com/fred-detail.html)
[drink]
Bourbon County Stout is awesome - I highly recommend. [drink]
Also very good: Expedition Stout and HopSlam. :)

Same here.
But after my experience with Double Bastard... I have a new "To-Do" list!
No Eku 28?
When I used to beable to drink without getting a Migraine I had some pretty good beer . I can't remember the whole name of it but it ended in Oatmeal Stout.
Anyone know what the full name of what I might be talking about ? Dolph [drink]

There are hundreds of oatmeal stouts out there. It's just one of many varieties of stout. ;)

Fin du Monde (end of the world) by Unibroue only weighs in at 9.x%, but I can assure you it's name does not lie. They also make a beer called La Terrible that has 10 something percent, but I've never found it around here.

Thanks wark, I didn't find the brand listed . I do remember buying it at an Anderson's store in Reynolsburg , Ohio in around the mid to later '90s. Dolph
I think beers over 10% are a little much, anyway. No real drinkability for something I normally use as a water/juice/soft drink/wine substitute with a meal.
The title is [roll] as these are for sipping with strong food, and will only "knock you on your ass" if you drink them like they're on tap...

And have you ever had Delirium Tremens? (the beer ;D)

I have had the Sam Adams triple bock. It was like drinking soy sauce. I really like dark, strong beers and this didn't resemble anything I like. Beyond the taste-stain it leaves, the lack of carbonation was weird too.
St. Bernardus Abt 12 is The Bizness. Love that beer.
The Maredsous-es are a glaring omission on this list, as are a lot of the exported Belgian beers. Chimay, Duvel, Kwak etc will all kick le ass.
Anything that ends in Grand Cru is devil juice as far as I am concerned. I once *split* a six pack of Celis GC (miss that brewery) with an ex girlfriend and nearly got kicked out of college. Picture me popping open my first of three or four bottles of delicious insanity drink, taking a sip and nodding appreciatively at the full body, complex top notes. Fast forward to me doing donuts on a campus parking lot, storming into my print lab, trashing it, and leaving evidence and swath of destruction for my very kind TA to clean and cover up for me the next morning. I also remember listening to a lot of Bon Jovi. Caveat drinkor is what I am saying.
Stone Brewing is my all time favorite next to Deschutes

I know I've had it, but it was probably after a bout of Fin du Monde. Which would explain the memory loss.....

Outstanding work [thumbsup]. You would have fit in well at the medical school I went to.
As far as the Belgian Ales go, have you ever had Corsendonk Pale? My absolute favorite beer.
Anheuser-Busch Brewmaster's Reserve Don't laugh...it is the best thing to have ever come out of St. Louis. And any beer that recommends a brandy snifter as serving glassware...how can you go wrong?
Slightly below the 10% but a damn fine brew...
Spaten Optimator Doppelbock...A fine fine glass of tastiness.
I've had a few of those beers on the list. Not a bad list. I need to print it out and take it with me to Perfect Pour. They'll likely have most of the beers that list except the ones I know they'll never get like, Alesmith and Westvleteren. On the list the best i've had is Rochfort Trappist 10 closely followed by St Bernadus Apt 12.

True, a number of these are sipping, for a sake of sipping beers and not one's that you just drink down. But for as many sippers, there's that number of ones that you can drink down like water.
Personally I find the 7-8% are the real trouble ones. Not as strong, but strong for a beer and quite often yummy and easy to drink - so you get a lot in you faster. Of those, Duvel Trapist, Most things coming from Ommegang these days, the tired and true Chimay. And an old fave I can't get in the east anymore, New Belgiums (folks who do Fat Tire) Belgian Duble. The Brickskeller in DC (if you ever come to DC and like beer, go there) used to carry it, $5 for a 750ml - best deal in the city.,
I've only had the Vermonster by Rock Art Brewery from that list.
I'm surprised they don't have Dogfish Head 120min or Harpoon's Leviatan. Both excellent beers:

Thank you, thank you [thumbsup] I am sure I would have flunked out of there too :)
I did have a Corsendonk of some kind when I was overseas. I stayed in a hotel around the corner from a really good Belgian restaurant who had that and one of my other favorites, Leffe Dark on tap. I will have to try to find that Pale...
One other one, although not as high in booze content - Breckenridge 471 Double IPA is a tremendously good way to get drunk.
This one should definitely be on the list.
Dogfish World Wide Stout
Availability: Limited
Release Date: November 2008
YES! This is the beer you've heard so much about. Dark, rich, roasty and complex, World Wide Stout has more in common with a fine port than a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer. Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley. Have one with (or as!) dessert tonight!
18+% abv
Also Victory V12, the liquid luxury

Sounds ridiculous for beer. However, Dogfish Head Raison D' Etre is an awesome brew. At 9% ABV it's perfect.
I have yet to meet a Dogfish Head brew I didn't like. [beer]

+1. My favorite Brewery, with Ommegang a close second.
+1 On Dogfish Head. I've had the 120 Minute IPA. It's a sipping beer. A little hoppy doesn't quite cover it. It's was a slow drinker.
Of the Belgiums my favorite is Westmalle Tripel. We were touring the Bastogne area a couple of years ago. My brother and I had about 3 Westmalle Tripels each at lunch. My father announced it was time to head to the next sight, we stood up and then fell over. It tastes good, goes down easy and packs a good punch.

Dolph,
Maybe Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout is what you were thinking about. Great Beer. All Sam Smith's are good.

Have some of this in the fridge right now... I laughed when I read "IBUs"â€"until I looked it up. But I'm still laughing. [laugh]
Years ago, in a pub far far away they sold this stuff called Old Roger.
Now old Roger was a funny type of beer...........it comes on tap and is sold in 10 0z glasses(half pint). Its think and flavorful.
These days you are only allowed to have 2 pints all night long.
There is a standing competition............or at least there was.If you can drink 5 pints down your throat, make it once around the parking lot and get any body part over the threshold of the pub your prize is a barrell of the stuff.
Thats 88 imperial pints.
No one has ever done this. Let me stress this again NO ONE HAS EVER DONE THIS.
The stuff is lovely. It is sold in a pub called The Royal Standard in Denham Hertforshire. In my extremely misguided and corrupted youth I spent many nights in this pub, drinking this stuff. Best bit was without doubt the ride home every night. Might take 10 minutes, might take 4 hours. All depends on how wasted you were. The more wasted , the longer it takes to get home as you seem to forget the way and land up like in Birmingham(thats about a hundred miles north of London). Pleasant memories of a well spent youth and great times on motorbikes.
Now ,in the modern era
I am against drinking and driving and do not think its ok to do.In fact its bloody stupid and I have no sympathy for anyone who gets caught or hurts themselves or others.
I grew up.
Yes it makes me a hippocrite as I did it in my youth.I am a lot of things now I am older.
The memories of this fine beer I shall take o my grave.

Hmm I don't think it's really hoppy at all, not compaired to the 60 or 90. I just went down to the local Dogfish Head owned place and had a 120 last night. Definitely a sipper. Sweet and apricot-y

Oh snap, I had some of that the other week. One of the local concert venues serves it. Had one on top of the 4 strong beers we polished off in and hour before the show.. not my best idea... but very good beer
I bought a 120min IPA, EKU 28, and a Le Terrible last night in celebration of this thread.
I started with the EKU 28.
Mmm... This is a great thread.
