Title: 7.5K Service on a 696, Price?
Post by: zLoki on February 10, 2009, 01:25:54 AM
I'm at 6.5k on my 696, got a dealer quote for the 7.5k service, $750.00.  Anyone else got quotes?

I'm interested in what others might say since I'm getting close too.  $750 sounds not so bad though.

I'm still @  5k away from that service, but I will check next time I'm at the dealers.

This seems high for should essentially be a valve check (adjustment as necessary) and an oil change ~

I am not too good with these technical things on this bike, but mine had some sort of chain or valve or something like that adjusted already at the first maintenance :) Did you just get an oil change and thats it?

When I purchased my 696, I also bought a service plan. It was $900 for the first 3 services. I know 600 miles is the first service, but I don't remember when the next 2 are required.

The dealership made it sound like this was an amazing deal. But a few weeks later, I wondered if maybe I had gotten ripped off. In actuality, I have no idea how much the first 3 services will cost me. Maybe I'm only saving a couple bucks.

And what if I don't make it past the first service? What if I want to move out of state? Or what if I trash the bike?

Any thoughts?

I bought the plan too and since I'm moving out of state, I'm told that I'm screwed.

The 2nd service would be 7.5K, 3rd at 15K.  Usually you save some.  I feel certain you'd be paying more than $300 for each service.  The 15K involves changing belts too, so you're looking at that one being more expensive than the other two ~

If you're in the bay area check out Nichols manufacturing in milpitas, they did the 12K on my s2r monster and I was out the door for $450 including, valve check, belt replacement, oil change, and they fixed a few other small things.  Bike runs great would highly recommend.

i'm assuming somewhere between $350 and $500 is around average

Wow, so it seems $750 is a bit high.  I'll have to shop around, luckily there are five dealers within reasonable driving distance.

It seems really high for a service alone.  Was it including tires or something?

Sometimes the dealer will throw in the 600 mile service and sometimes Ducati will offer--through the dealer--certificates for the 600 mile service as a sales incentive.  As part of your price bargaining, you might want to ask them to throw in the 600 mile service.  The 600 mile service should be significantly cheaper than the 7.5K service.  They're not doing valves or belts so there's less involved.

Nope, just the service.  Something like $450 in labor, the rest was parts.

Wow...  That's a lot of $$$ for parts for the 7,500.  Even when I was buying Silkolene, & was only paying $50 for the oil and whatever I needed *if* I even needed a shim ~

Melillimoto in Ocala is the best if your close enough.  As long as you stay away from Daytona Ducati, your alright

Dude, your in LA and Not going to Valley Ducati Service?  Way better than a dealer who is over charging you.

Loki, that sounds like a rip.  It should not cost 200 bucks in parts.

Just test rode a 696 this weekend, loved it......but @ 5K miles you're in need of new tires?  Are they made of butter? Are you the burn out queen?

I always get frustrated when I hear service prices, because I think I got hosed...

'06 S2r... 12k service, NO valve adjustments needed... rear brake pads... front fork service... front tire install, I bought my own tire... $1100.

Wish I had more service options. Maybe I'll go to Bologna and get certified!  [thumbsup]

5k out of a rear tire is actually pretty good in my opinion... I don't do burnouts or anything like that but these are sport oriented bikes and so equipped with grippy soft tires. You could always put a set of sport touring tires on when its time...

Definately not a good reason not to buy a bike imho

I had such great luck with these guys when I had my 900SS.  Awesome service.  Real professionals.  I was just talking to the Mrs. today and told her that my 696 is going to them for the next service.  Good to have a price.

Mine lasted less than 4500.
I'm surprised there's so much variation in prices from dealer to dealer, btw. My experience with my cars was always that things tended to be pretty close as far as regular service and maintenance.

if you have not seen how much work goes into adjusting the valves, as in teh time that it takes just to remove all the stuff to get to teh vertical cylinder then you can't complain about charging for time,

a full valve service and changing belts, oil and general going ove rthe bike and such should take 3-5 hours if done properly.  i'm sure some might be able to t do it faster but its not really likely.

I have no problem with the labor charges for a good shop to do the repair if I do not have the time.  However, my local shop wanted to charge me $450 to double check the valves I set on a 916 engine that was out of the bike.  I was going to bring them the engine and have them check my work (I did not tell them this but I wanted to know how good of a job I did as it was my first time doing this on a duc and also wanted to see how honest they were.)

i told them I was doing a project and had the engine out.  Asked how much for them to set the valves if I bring them the engine.  They said $450.  I said you realize there is pretty much no disassembly required on this.  They said "yes, it will be $450".  I don't go there much anymore.

Almost did Daytona, then after we hit Melillimoto for Tard Demos, realized how close it is AND how GOOD they really are all around, so DEF hitting up Sebatian for the 7500 mile service, which is coming faster than I want, at 5K+ already.
Gotta give em a call and take Beastie Boy in sooner tho cuz lost nearly a quart in oil somehow! None lost since topped off several miles now BUT there is visible oil "leak" bit concerning. Also, my left mirror came loose as hell only weeks after purchase, "fixed" it we thought, but then it blew off while riding last week. CAUGHT IT MID AIR THO wow, huh?   [laugh]  Needs replaced...

Greg...no burn outs here, in fact I missed perfect opportunity just before swapping out for new tire  [bang]  [bang]  [bang]

BUT, as someone else said, this IS a sportsbike and we ride fast n hard, as it should be ridden.  My SO also ride sportsbikes including 600RR and Speed Triple and he ALSO eats up tires in similar mileage....

Even if you paid $100 for pads, and $100/hr for labor, that's like 10 hours of work. WTF took them so long? or, am I really missing something here, becuase that is a boatload of cash for a maintenance service.
