I was trying to think of a silver lining to this Economic mess that we have come to find ourselves in . This is what came to mind.
There may be a halt to the Urban sprawl. For me personally that could mean very little home construction especially where I like to ride and that would mean no mud and rocks all over the roads for 150 yards from a construction site .
I really dislike flying through the hills and the woods and come upon all the stuff the gets left on the road (especially in the wet time of the year ) by vehicles working in a muddy home site.
My apologies to anyone in the home construction business or those who can't get a home loan. Dolph
nope..... stimulus is all roads and bridges
cuz we need more

As long as they get them done before the bridges all drop into the river at rush hour.
after seeing that bridge in minnesota collapse a couple summers ago, I'm all for fixing the infrastructure. I'm not all for construction zones and reduced speed limits though.

I say we lobby for them to go nowhere.
Just a series of windy hilly roads that double back on themselves in 3 to 4 mile circles in unpopulated ares with 1/2 lane wide access roads. ;)

yes.
the voters declined the bridge to no where crowd [thumbsup]
Id rather have a bridge to nowhere than a bridge to Hell!

Joel, I wasn't going for anything Political. I didn't want a thread lock. Dolph
This reminds me of the Peter Schiff video. If he's right (and he has been so far) this means we go back to actually saving money, instead of spending 100.1% of our yearly income. Not a bad situation to end up in.

I have watched this like three times, and every time it creeps me out a little bit. It is like that flashback scene in movies where the viral agent that causes all the zombies is heralded as the miracle cure for cancer.
Peter Schiff ? and Nouriel Roubini Professor at the Stern School of Business NYU , they both had it right !
I can't believe all theses other so called experts got it sooo wrong . I almost have to believe that a lot of pundits didn't want their " fairy tale " to not continue.
I had great admiration for Art Laffer but now he's just another guy who couldn't see the " forest for the trees." Dolph

I don't know. We've got the infamous "road to nowhere" here in these NC mountains. The government as YET to settle that one. It's been like 50 years too.
JM
roads to nowhere are great when you want to get away for a little while
The funny thing about Peter is...... it's all based on common sense looks at what going on around you. I have zero education, and even I saw it coming.
I bet every one of those dumbasses that laughed at him still thinks he's wrong.
Umm, the reason i bought my monster was to ride that road to now where. I have a summer home in now where, nice place quiet.

A little easier to say when you're retired.

Pretty much what i was going to say. These guys with all the education cant seem to find their way out of a paper bag. Those are the people that have to make huge bonuses at these big companies and run them into the ground. Heck they could hire me for say, $200K a year. I couldn't possibly do any worse than all these Jokers with an MBA.
As for those roads leading to nowhere, there should be a good place to get delicious food, a little gas, and good beer on those roads. [drink] [moto] [bacon]

As far as I know, you're retired. You have no worry of losing your job right now-those of us sweating it out in the workforce are walking on eggshells. There are more important things than worrying about construction debris.
Which is, ironically, yet
another reason you should do a track day.

Dave, I've been pissed for a long time about Urban Sprawl. A lot of wealthy people from Columbus come to the " Hills " and build a get-away home , or there are more and more B&Bs sprouting up in my favorite riding areas and they cause 1) Traffic, 2) Destruction of old growth Forest, 3) Make a mess all over the roads with there Construction droppings.
I know that you never cleaned your bike , but I like to keep my bikes as clean as possible so mud all over the road for 100-150 yards pisses me off ! Besides it's dangerous for a motorcycle going at high speed.
As far as a track day , do they spread mud and rocks all over the the track for a 100 yards so that you can practice how to deal with that ?
I worked in an Industry for 30 + years where my performance was measured on a weekly, monthly, quarterly ,and yearly basis .
I could have lost my position even being a minority owner ,had my division not been as profitable as judged by those who set the profit goals for the overall Company.
Therefore I was concerned about loosing my position ( job ) everyday for 30 + years. Everything about my position was Sales driven.
I don't wish for anyone to loose there job. Just don't build anymore in the " Hills " where a lot of riders love to ride. Dolph :)
I'm with you Dolph, trying to find a silver lining. The only one I can find so far is that my company pays severance. They're threatening layoffs, without actually using the word, so we'll see. Hopefully the severance will help me get my own thing off the ground.
As for the talking heads on the TV... Some economist on CNN the other day was saying that American are saving too much of their income. Uh wait. wait just one effing minute. 3 years ago all you economists complained about was that we didn't save enough. Now we're saving too much? Hey, newsflash Mr PHD who will have a job for years interpreting how "they" got us into this mess. Not all of us are so lucky. Some of us are saving so that we can have some money saved up so we're not standing in food lines like our grandparents did.
Idiots.
I'm reminded of Dark Knight.. '...As for the televisions so called plan....'
I fully agree with you Dolph, but if we don't own the ground, how can we tell others what to do with their property? They have the right to sell it. The new buyers are gonna build.
Maybe the state could set aside land in a state park for roads with only outlooks (like the Foothills Parkway & Cherahola Skyway down at Deal's Gap).
Otherwise, we'd have to get together as individuals, and buy large tracts with twisty roads for us to ride. That'd be worse than wrangling cats!!!
Unfortunately, if we go to local government with safety issues/ increased traffic, they're going to lower speed limits, and make the ride LESS fun!!
There should not be debis on the road - you probably can address that. That mud on the road is terrible - for cars & especially bikes. Depending on the amount of mud, and the volume of traffic on the road, they can enforce a stone driveway to get the mud off the trucks, wash stations to clean the mud before entering the road, street sweepers to clean the mud. A single house may only require #4 stone for a certain distance.
