Title: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 17, 2009, 06:17:02 AM Just wondering if any of your Monsters have names. Is it a female name, like how you name a ship? Is it just "The Duc"?
Introduce your bike here! Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: the_Journeyman on February 17, 2009, 06:21:38 AM My '99 M750 is "Molly." Referred to by my fiancée as "the other woman" and "the mistress"

Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: Jarvicious on February 17, 2009, 02:22:24 PM It's odd, but I've had her (def a girl) almost a year and a name hasn't come up yet. I think bikes should name themeselves. For now, it's just "Duc" or for clarification "no no, the bike that pedals itself".
I had a friend suggest I call it "Bumble" (yellow w/black stripe). I temporarily disfriended her and she knew it :) Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: Buckethead on February 17, 2009, 02:26:52 PM My Sport 1000's name is "Serafina."
I think one reason we give them female names is because sometimes its nice when they get a makeover. Or at least change the bulb and make the headlights brighter. I brought it up because my buddies and i all named our saturns in high school. (yes, maybe 3 of us had saturns) one was Tupper (plastic car, tupperware) mine was Urple, because it looked black, but really, in bright light you could tell it was purple. ugggh, i still drive it too But that's okay, because now i own a Ducati!!!!! Came home this week, and Jesus, that thing is louder than i remember! f'ing awesome [clap] anyways, i was thinking Betty, after Betty Paige, because looking at my 696 Dark and pictures of Betty Paige do similar things [beer] I'll post a link, so you can check it out if you choose to http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a261/nordic45/BettyPaige.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a261/nordic45/BettyPaige.jpg) anyways, she's sexy Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? When she doesn't get what she wants, she brakes something. She also likes and demands very expensive gifts. But, when its good, it is very good. I have to say she doesn't mind if I ride her hard and put her away wet. Just last night I look in on her and she said, "I can't wait till Spring, big boy. When you thrust in that key and turn it I am going to make you feel so goooood."
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Can a man love a machine? Even if she is a demanding b*tch? [moto] [moto] My other named bike, a BMW F650, is the mule. When my wife and I go on multi-day gravel road trips the mule carries all the sh*t while my wife rides her light and nimble DR650 which carries almost nothing. Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: Big Troubled Bear on February 18, 2009, 10:17:44 PM I have a 190 BHP Yamaha R1 as a track bike that gets raced in our regional championship by a very talented youngster, so when the red 696 replaced my old "Silver dream machine" M 900, my 3 year old son named it the "Red Number One" yes that`s how he pronounces Yamaha.
My wife just refers to all 2 wheeled machines as Money pits ;D Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: lauramonster on February 19, 2009, 08:04:57 AM "Scout" was my first bike. Seca II - 600 cc's of turdiness!!! She was a GREAT starter bike, and taught me what a bike should have (by showing me what she didn't). Stupidly, traded her in on the ducati, and have found times it would have been nice to have a cheap bike that anyone could ride.
the S2R never was named, and yes I lost her before 2 years. Maybe your theory is correct!! It was difficult to quantify her - she was strong, beautiful, I loved her dearly (does that make me gay??) but she defied a name. Didn't know anyone those traits. Now have a BMW tourer, and she's just the beemer, cause she's lacking in personality. just picked up a 1975 Yahama XS 650. She's gonna be a cafe racer (hopefully by this summer), and OH YEAH!!! she's gonna get a name!!! This thing's got personality (and then some). hubby's first POS was called Wanda. 1982 virago 1000 cc's of 'balls to the walls' or nothing. Fickle!! hubby's current bike is Athena. 2002 Warrior and she's a beauty!!! 1600 cc's of thrust, beautiful throaty voice, and looks to knock your sock off!! yeah, bikes should be named. They all have personalities, and we like their quirks. Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! My Monster just finally got named last week ;D After two years of nicknames but no real name it suddenly hit me... Eve she's beautiful...she's naked...and she has a knack for tempting me to sin [evil] Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: DucatiBastard on April 27, 2009, 04:04:19 PM I call her Apollonia.
In "The Godfather", when Michael is exiled to Sicily, he one day meets a woman. This is a woman who is so beautiful, so sensual, that he is immediately "thunderstruck", a common Sicilian term for the wanting, the needing, to possess a woman, to be with her body and soul. He asks around town and finds out the girls name...Apollonia... [wine] BTW the book, even with the movie being so freakin' good, the book is soooooo much better! Most of my guitars are named after women I have either known or know personally (Alicia, Trixie, Rachel, Sunni, Kristina, Melissa, Katie). The cars just get names that fit (Bettie, Roxanne, Izabella). My first bike was called, of course, Suzi. She was a '81 Suzuki GS 650. Great learner. Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Post by: corndog67 on April 27, 2009, 04:58:05 PM My S4 is (I believe), #37 in a long line of sleds that I have owned. I've never named any of my bikes, I don't get attached to them, I just beat the crap out of them, and either sell them or throw them away. They're just motorcycles. There is always another one that I want next (S4RS, Hypermotard, RC-51, ZX-10, KTM Superduke, KTM Supermoto, the list goes on and on). Right at the moment, there is the Ducati, the Yamaha (YZ450F), and the Honda (CBR900RR, but my brother is buying that). Even if I did name them, I wouldn't cop to it. That is just soooo........Goober.
Actually my brother named it when I was having electrical problems. "Is that piece of sh_t running yet?" "Maybe you should throw some more money at it". Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: jayson on April 27, 2009, 09:35:54 PM 97 m900 is Meatball

mentioned it to everyone i know and several people said its a name of a transvestite from a song but i wont believe them (unless my research proves them right). so if thats true its gonna change again. edit: damn... its time for a name change. my research pointed me to the song "lola" by the kinks and wikipedia tells me that it is in fact about a transvestite. wiki link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lola_(song)) this doesnt make me less of a man does it? A name so nice you gotta say it twice. Whenever I turn on my motorcycle the engine starts to play this song. Seriously. About 14 seconds into this clip you can here my 2-valve engine in the background. When I added the '01, I started calling it "Red Dog" (An obscure football reference from this old coach since, back in the day, blitzes were called "red dogs".) Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Post by: Klip on September 01, 2009, 12:54:19 PM I've had my S4R for more than 2 years, but just this month felt like I found a name for it.
I think of my bike as male. He's loud, dirty, intimidating, has a few scars, and talks me into being a hooligan. He's one of my best mates and we've stuck by each other's side through many grand adventures and scary moments. I call him Sully. Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Interestingly enough I'm the same way. Though I have already posted here the names of my two bikes, I think I've also mentioned that they are never called by those names. The naming of the bikes was more of a poetic formality for me, but never something I would actually say. Everytime I see the subject line of this thread in my "Updated Topics" page, I want to answer... "Yes, Ducati Monster S4RS Testastretta." Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! I definitely don't go out of my way to find a name, they generally name themselves after a while. My car is the Rink Rat (old hockey reference on the plates) and the company van is just the van. Title: Re: Does your bike have a name? Tell us here! Post by: The Bacon Junkie on September 01, 2009, 09:18:23 PM Named her after 2 years of calling her my baby. Rosie. Partly because she's an Italian red head. Mostly because I'm a Springsteen fan. ;D
