Title: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: CairnsDuc on February 17, 2009, 12:57:23 PM G'day All
I'm leaving my current job for a large electrical retailer to go and work for my local Ducati dealer, I got a call from them on Saturday asking if I would be interested in taking over the Spare Parts area, The missus and I had a chat about it, I went and met the owners on Tuesday morning. Handing in notice today with my current job (Photo Lab Technician) Start there in just over 2 weeks. It's going to be one hell of a steep learning curve! but I am looking forward to the challenge, with all the bullshit that has been going on with my current job (see thread titled: Management Logic) I decided enough was enough and decided it was time to move on. I think it will suit me as being a small dealer (5 people including the branch owner) they want someone who is willing to give just about any job a go. It will be hard work, but I think it will be more fun and fulfilling than my current job. Oh, and as part of the job, I get to take one of the Demo bikes home each night [thumbsup] Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: craigo on February 17, 2009, 01:18:29 PM omg congrats CairnsDuc! Good luck with it. It sure will make it easy to find you if I'm ever in Cairns 8)

Challenges are good for you - as long as they are the right sort! (ie. not dealing with a d*&khead manager) Sounds like a role made just for you...perfect timing too...sometimes things happen for a good reason! All the best and I'm sure there's going to be a few on this board that will drop by when in your part of the world! Is this the same dealer you previously had issues with? Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: CairnsDuc on February 17, 2009, 03:49:24 PM Yep, and he said they have made mistakes, I'm happy to let bygones be bygones, with my customer service knowledge and the level of service I would expect from a Ducati dealer, I'm hoping I can bring in new thoughts and Ideas. I'm not being presumptious and saying I'm better or smarter, but I think it helps that someone looking from the outside (as a customer) can see issues that someone from the inside can't see.
I think most of the issues have come from a small group of guys being overwhelmed by the massive level of work to be done when they took over the franchise from the previous piss poor dealer. They are still sorting out warranty issues and drama's from the previous dealer, and they have had the franchise for nearly 2 years! And the amount of people out there waiting for another dealer to come in and take it over, because an awful lot Ducati lovers have come out of the woodwork since these guys took over. (I'm one of them!) Plus selling Seadoo Jetski's and all the assorted service work. I think they sometimes just get so busy the odd mistake or slip up will slip through, it happens. But talking to the guys, they love the work, there happy doing it, There's not many people who can go to work and say they care deeply about the products they sell or work on, but when I talk to these guys, they appear very happy about the products and they seem to love the place. (They must be, the amount of hours they do is crazy!) It's a rare thing to go past and not see the doors open and people working away inside) Let's be honest, how many poeple can say they go to work and play with nice shiny new toys everyday [thumbsup] Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: desmoquattro on February 17, 2009, 04:30:57 PM Congrats! Glad to see we have another DMF'er in the business.

Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: loony888 on February 19, 2009, 03:45:00 AM I think most of the issues have come from a small group of guys being overwhelmed by the massive level of work to be done when they took over the franchise from the previous piss poor dealer. remember though, from now on you're going to have to have a filter installed between your brain and your mouth as you no longer represent just yourself but your employer here also. I hope you enjoy the change, and i'm sure all the local riders will benefit from you passing on the high level of service you expected from the dealership previously. A steep learning curve indeed, your retail background will help, so will an open mind. good luck mate. paul. Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: CairnsDuc on February 19, 2009, 10:57:13 PM I know where your coming from with that one Loony888, I used to work for a Car Audio Dealer and I was also a Moderator on a Forum of there biggest brand (Still am actually, Rockford Fosgate.com)
I use to constantly stress that my thoughts were my own, and they did not represent the thoughts, views or position of the company I worked for, I ended up putting it in my Sig to ensure that people realized it was my thoughts and I was not speaking on behalf the Store I worked at or it's parent company. I had to read what I typed, then reread it, and rethink it again from various angles to ensure that I was getting anyone in the poo. It's such a legal minefield out there now :o Title: Re: I'm going to work for the local Ducati dealer Post by: DosVerde on February 21, 2009, 04:12:39 AM Onya CD, good luck with the new career. As you said before, you have been on the other side as the customer so you're going in with a different attitude.
May I add my little bit advice - don't bomard management with too many new idea's or critcism's at once, people just don't respond well to that. I have seen a friend do a similiar thing, he had great idea's but tried to re-invent the world in one week. Didn't get too far. |
