Title: Meet the twins
Post by: LYD on February 20, 2009, 01:40:41 PM
Okay Mindy and I are pretty much settled in, I have a walkout basement with sliding doors, so the twins are now in the basement.  I am setting up a work place for them.  Let me know what you think!

+1 looks like 2 street bikes to me instead of a street bike and a track bike   [thumbsup]

Damn nice mirrors! [laugh] I agree, had to put on my Oakleys there for a minute. I think all that yellow messed up my monitor screen. ;D

All I know is they'd look better in a DFW garage!! [clap] Enjoy the street/track transformation work. That basement IS heated, right? Document the work with pics. [thumbsup]

1st -  Bryant yes there are 2 strret bikes now!!!  I want to keep the bike easily ready to morph back into a street bike, because you never know when some who rides might come and visit.  This way I have the extra bike for all the twisties up here!!  But yes it will be my track bike.

2nd - Brian yes it would look better in a DFW garage, and in 1 year it WILL be. Yes the basement is heated so no more winterizing, and if I really want to piss the neighbors off I just back the ass end out the door and start it up.  And I will document the work with pics and keep everyone posted.

3rd - Rich, thats the plan, but Mindy has to get a job before I start anything major, plus I am saving for a move next year.

4th - muskrat I think they do but see #3

5th - Thanks!  [thumbsup]

6th - anyone ever heading this way I have a bike for them to ride, especially in the hot july-august heat!

I'm all about a roadtrip there but trailering up there alone would SUCK.  How far are you from the Dragon?

Not sure where the dragon is, but I am in martinsburg, WV.  80 NW of DC.  Anytime any of you are welcome!!!

you're 500 miles from Robinsville, NC, where the Dragon and many of the best roads in the US are.  Here's the link http://www.tailofthedragon.com/  If you have any vaca let me know and I'll meet you there.

when I make it your way on work related stuff I'll let you know, BUT if anyone reading this board wants to do the Dragon I'm in.  I've done it on my cruiser and it's best to do it mid-week.

from what i have been told by family that lives in vriginia. forget the dragon- too heavily patrolled and "too many da#! tourists" (me/us). blue ridge parkway is very long and very nice but speed limit is only 45 on that thing. i would just pull out a map and star banging out miles. did you locate burkeville?

Chris burkeville is about 240 miles away.

On a local related topic, we have the Talimena Scenic Drive (which is our weak ass Dragon's Tail equivalent) in South East Oklahoma and we had problems last spring with overly excited Park Rangers. Yes, we got tickets! It's a 50+mile "park road" with a 55mph speed limit and it's double striped the entire way for no passing. I have ridden up there since 1980 and have passed thousands of cars and have never seen any law enforcement to speak of. Until last spring. :P They even set up a road block with orders to arrest me for evading arrest when they caught me! :P Well I turned around and headed back up the road when I realized everyone wasn't behind me. I figured that something had gone sour but had no idea that we were targeted and pulled over as a group by the Park Rangers. On a positive note, I was told by a LeFlore County Sheriff Deputy in 2005 that they only patrol that road on weekends and don't waste their time on weekdays due to minimal traffic. He made me promise not to tell!!! [evil] So, don't go up there on the weekends and you will be fine!! The Park Rangers told us that they had been given orders by their boss to shut down the motorcycle high jinks on the weekends.[thumbsup] Again, don't go on the weekends!! [thumbsup] [moto] [drink]

yes the Dragon is HEAVILY patrolled which is why I said weekday.  my last trip there wasn't so good because we landed smack on the weekend.  anyway, that's not the best or the only road.....trust me.  you have the skyway and the devils diamond just down the road which are better and long as hell.  some in this group would run out gas actually.

Damn!  Those are some fine looking motorcycles, BLQ  [thumbsup]    That yellow Monster is really something special; I can't wait to see what you do with the "new" one!

Really hope you and Mindy can make it back to Texas; it just ain't been the same!  [moto]

Thanks Lisa!  Mindy and I are already talking about coming back.  I think around Nov.  Mindy will head back and start looking for a job and as soon as she gets one, and its past Feb 1st, I will quit and come also.  Texas is where we want to be.  Much better weather and GREAT friends!!  Those are the 2 main reasons!!  But yes we WILL be back early next year. I have to wait for 1 year or I have to pay back all the cash they gave me and spent on us for the move and we don't want to do that. so we will put up with it for a year.

how long you been with gm? almost seems like a huge waste for you and the family to be moved all over and you not get some early retirement or something?
as for how quite it is......it's a neverending termignoni party. except for me and i don't think i am as loud as you.

Title: Re: Meet the twins
Post by: LYD on February 25, 2009, 03:13:51 AM
I've been with gm just over 10 years, so next Jan will be 11.  no early retirement.  Everytime we move a get a lump sum of cash, but as for early retirement, nope.  There are people, at the plant I just left, that will be let go with 24 years and no retirement.

As for the termi party, to each thier own.   I love my D&D's and I will get another set for the new bike.  I like being different!

The guys that own and operate D&D in Ft. Worth are really cool.  I worked with them on my senior design project back in the college days.  I created a 3-d CAD model of their Salt Lake dragster and dumped that into a fluid mechanics software to find and redesign high stagnation points and areas of high turbulence.  Haven't really heard much about the bike since.

I've heard my fair share of D&D mufflers having spent countless hours at their facility.  They are loud.  [evil]

When was that? Just curious. I had David Rash (part of the D&D) build a set of open megaphone exhausts for my '78 Guzzi 850 LeMans back in the early 80s. I think before D&D offically existed... I think. Also had one of their first commercially successfully exhaust systems on my 1983 Honda Interceptor. That exhaust put them on the map! My understanding is that David Rash either left or sold out a while back. How long ago? Don't know. That's why I am curious about your college days work with them. As in, when was that and was Rash still there???

Thanks for the answer ahead of time. [thumbsup]

c'mon fastwin, back me up here!!  Doesn't one your museum pieces have an old mid-90's D&D pipe on it??  They were one of our endurance team sponsors and I used to wonder about the flag thing. Of course I had to use pain meds back then too...  :P

This was late 2006 / early 2007.  Dave Rash was still very much a part of day to day operations.

Here's more info on their salt flat bike:
