Today's Boston weather was awesome, it hit 60 and i just finished installing the bellypan on my red monster 695. So I decided to take it for a spin along the beach in South Boston. Being a careful rider, I put on my gear, leather jacket, gloves, helmet and SIDI boots (these are great especially if you broke your foot a little while ago). Man...the ride was awesome, the road got some wet spots because of the snow is melting like a popsicle in the summer but I didn't let that bother me. So I was cruising enjoying the sound of the bike and the scenery, I can tell all the pedestrian and car peeps were checking out the bike, i was like eat your heart out two legged creatures and four-wheelers. Then I cruised past two state troopers who were detailing some road work. So I slowed down and used my Jedi mind tricks so I won't be noticed...and it workeD!!! I cruised by and enjoying the scenery again. So I continued cruising then I had to make a u-turn because that was the end of the road. Then on the way back, I saw the two state troopers again, I was like let's do the Jedi mind tricks again. So I slowly went by the first one and he nodded as if he was saying "I got a Ducati too" yeah whatever, he looked like a dweeb. Then all the sudden the second trooper stepped into the road then point at me to pull over. I was like crap! I wasn't speeding, I was just cruising, then I was thinking to myself ok I got the registration, got my license, the bike is insured, the bike has a legal plate, I was like cool, no big deal. So I pulled over and dude came up and said "Nice bike!" Wheeww...what a relief! Then I was thinking homeboy made me all nervous for nothing. Then we chatted, he said he saw me pimping by earlier with all my gear and the pimp bike. He asked if I was around here, I said yeah, he said he was in NYC last year and checked out some ducatis, i guess he was just trying to connect, to be "in the circle" haha....so found out he has a Harley and blah blah. Then he said have a nice ride, enjoy the weather...then i peace him out.
I love staties who ride!

So many cops are riders. [thumbsup]
MOST police officers dont care to mess with pulling over bikes. Unless you are being a complete jackass they will usually leave you alone.
Nice story. I think most of us would have different opinions of LEO if we all could have positive non-enforcement interactions like that.

Not out here. We get pulled over for integrated taillights or "obstructed" tags.

YMMV
Not to turn this into a police bashing thread, but I believe there's many other riders who'd disagree with that statement.
+1 the the original post [thumbsup]

I guess everyone has different experiences. Mine on 4 wheels is completely different for instance but I have ridden in several states and have found police to be fairly nice in them all. (when on 2 wheels)

Generalization.
Most (if not all) of the Officer's at my agency only pull over the guys riding like idiots. The taillight or tag serves as the probable cause for the stop. The stop could usually have been avoided by more conservative riding. And concerning the obstructed tag. I run every bike I come across to see if it's stolen. I figure other riders would want me to do that. If I can't read the plate I stop them. Just make sure your plate is visible when you are ON the bike. Lots of guys set the plate up and it's easy to read when they are in their garage but when they mount up the rear compresses and sometimes obscures the plate.
I have had to educate a few guys I work with regarding differing styles of bikes but that are all eager to learn the why and how. For instance, one guy stopped a guy on a super moto. I backed him and he told me the guy was braking late, putting a foot down in the turns, etc, etc. I informed him that's how a super moto is ridden. He listened. He let the guy go. I've worked with him for 18 months straight now and haven't seem him stop another super moto for "how he was riding".

Nice to know the true feelings from one who walks the walk. I wish all Police Officers had the common sense and interest you display. Dolph :)
Great story!
I got pulled over on my TriColore passing an old guy doing about 15mph. The speed limit is 25 in my neighborhood, so I may have briefly surpassed that during my overtaking move. Sure enough the Sheriff's Deputy hit the lights and I pulled over. He asked if I was in a hurry, where's the fire, etc...I was on my way to school, but other than that I had no "good" excuse. He laughed and told me to slow down and stop passing old people [laugh]
I was able to get on the bike today here in Boston and clean out the engine after a few months of hibernation. She started up on the first fire, just like she did months ago. Weather today was amazing, and you can tell that not only was I stoked to be out, but so were a lot of other folks. Even the people on four wheels were pumped to see me out today...just another sign that spring is around the corner. Too bad more winter weather hits Monday.
But I did notice that there were a lot of cops checking me out today. Made me a bit more nervous being the anomaly on the road and people not yet used to seeing bikes out again.
I got a short ride across town yesterday - just enough to warm the tires and blow some carbon out of the pipes. I was stopped at a light in downtown and a guy commented on how "beautiful" my bike sounds. I'm guessing it sounded like springtime to him.
Everyone seemed to be happy about the weather. Even a Harley guy waved to me as I passed in the other direction.
believe it or not...i dont see a lot of ducati riders, where've you guys been?? a buddy of mine has one too, we're hoping to "run" into ducati riders...shoot me an email if any riders want to meet for rides on weekends
I got pulled over on Wednesday as I was coming into Maryland. I was coming up a hill, saw the state trooper, looked down. . . 64. So sure enough, I slow down, he pulls out, lights come on, we stop. Long story short, he let me off with a warning!
Thank you Maryland state trooper Patterson!

It helps if you mention your location and post in the local forum for that area.

huh?
LOL.. That was texting chatter there.. It took a little decoding but I figured it out.. :-)
My wife and I were pulled over by a Sheriff Deputy this past Saturday while doing about 70 in a 45. Turns out it was a guy we know and who also rides. He pulled us over just to let us know that our favorite, local riding area was going to be swamped with police over the weekend because of complaints.....We also have had a city cop text us to let us know where the Sheriff Deputies and Highway Patrol are when he hears about it on the scanner.......We are also usually riding with the mayor's son of a local town, so hopefully we have some friends in the right places to help us avoid tickets. ;D
Someone's telling me that it's not safe for cops to pull over bikes on the highway...??
Cops up here won't pull over a bike unless they are infront of it and on foot to wave the guy in usually. They don't want to risk a chase most of the time. Been riding here in the Toronoto area for 4 years never been pulled over. Spend a lot of time on the highways usually 40Km (25 mph) over the limit maybe 10Km (6 mph) faster than half the cars, only once ever got the slow it down sign for a radar gun toting cop, gave him a wave and dropped down to 10Km over the limit, kept motoring no pursuit.
I have to admit even on a ride from Toronto to Nashville never once got pulled over, only time a cop even talked to me the whole time was to ask which version of Monster I had (620 dark at the time). Maybe I'm just lucky, or they don't care up here not sure which.
[drink] after the ride!

I was pulled over on the Mass Pike. My tail light was out. He said he didn't want be to be rear ended. Thinking about it now I should have said "Thanks I'll keep it above 100 mph."
