so I tried a session today
2 rounds
15 air squats
15 kettle dead lifts
15 push presses (shoulder straight up over the head using the legs for momentum)
15 pull ups (modified for me for now)
15 cone sprints (sprint back and fourth between 2 cones touching them 15 times)
I finished it in 8 minutes
I almost puked when it was over.
the trainer said if I did puke I would have gotten a free t shirt, maybe next time.
I'll be doing this 3 xs a wk

you know you don't have to stir shit up in a thread where someone already mentioned that's why the threads don't last.
feel free to post pics of yourself all buff and in shape along with details of how you personally got that way and why it might work for others too.
What do you suggest in terms of a workout?

can I use my legs? And can they be fingered gloves?
although even three minute rounds used to feel like a very long time unless we were outside the ring just watching. ;D

Don't sip the crossfit koolaid too hard kids. Before I say anything else, just so you think I might know what I'm talking about.
From 8 months ago, but I'm a lot stronger now...
Fran: 4:15 as Rx-d
Cindy: 22 rounds
Crossfit Total: 880 @ 155, for a 5.7 multiplier
I'll second the idea that crossfit makes you good at crossfit things. But don't equate crossfit performance with performance in sports or at other activities. I never really did crossfit, but have pretty good crossfit scores as well as being a competitive olympic lifter and an alright grappler. I am of the opinion that a good periodized training protocol will produce better results, even if your goal is to do well at crossfitty things.
With all that, please just read these few articles/opinion pieces a try.

Keep in mind Charles Poliquin has trained numerous professional and Olympic athletes, so his opinion has some merit.

Sure, man.
five-minute rounds felt like an ETERNITY the first time I did it. Like anything in combat sports, though, you get used to it.

Wouldn't know. Never done it.
I went to a CrossFit class once, and know several people who also go. It seemed interesting, but I gravitated towards combat sports; I like the idea of learning skills along with getting an incredible workout (getting to punch and kick people is fun, too).

Why would I try fake "kickboxing" workouts, when I get a workout learning to kickbox for real and training fighters?

BOLO YEUNG and BILLY BLANKS training. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdOQ5M2QWIY#lq2-hq-vhq)
this morning
4 rounds:
20 wall balls 20lb ball
400 meter run
20 pull ups
I finished it in 28 min and I was dying or thought I was going to die. [drink]
This sounds pretty interesting. Although I like the idea of getting as fit as possible not using too many tools.
I like combat sports to, but I agree with Statler, why must everyone try to bash someone's workout regimen? It makes no sense. Can any one training regimen make you good at everything? Probably not... Knew a bodybuider named Dodd, I want to look like that guy.... But took him backpacking and he was toast 5 miles into a 12 mile day..... So what? He does something that makes him fit and trains him for a healthy lifestyle doing what he wants. That's what matters.
And martial arts may be fun, but training is a liability. Get in a brawl and you get to go to jail more than the other guy. Of course, then you really get to use your training.... Yay....
In the grand scheme, do whatever you need, to get fit and stay there. And kudos for doing anything longer than one visit. Sticking with it is the hard part.
woke up at 430am left the house at 5am
got to the box and started training at 530am

Crossfit gets you good at everything. "Crossfit-y" things are all the things a person is going to need in order to be successul at the known and more importantly the unknown. "Constantly varied, functional movements done at high intensity"
