This is one of the local to Toronto Ducati dealerships that is now advertising this. Now if they would have only done this for the monsters I think it might have sold better.

That just makes the bike more useful to the owner. At least it doesn't have a stretched swingarm.
Surprising to me how good the MTS bags look on the 1098. [thumbsup] I dig this mod...it'd make long trips on the SBKs way easier. My only concern would be the bags and brackets need to be completely removeable, and easily.

I'd like to see pics with them off, but with a tall screen and a big efi tank it would be a great streetbike.

Yeah he did the cannonball run i believe on the 1098 and those hard cases carried fuel. I like it hell if it had better range i would consider it for mine [thumbsup]
Those bags make perfect sense, and it's a good product that fits well (considering) with the rest of the bike. [thumbsup] I'd kinda love how ridiculously impractical /practical that set-up is.
It also made me die inside a little bit. :'(
anything in those bags is going to get pretty hot

Man, thats awesome! I've had a recurring dream that I travelled the US on a 1098. Too bad in real life I've got a wife, kid, no money, etc., etc...
Man. The horizontal from above shot almost makes it look like a three wheeler the ass end is so wide.
Hey! Wait... a 1098 trike! Now THERE's an idea waiting to happen.
I like it.... but I'm biased. ;)

+1 The bags looks perfect on 1098/848. I think the only thing that would be ugly is when the panniers are removed there maybe some ugly frame left... I'm just not sure how someone can be on such sport bike long enough that would require using luggage.
Is it just me, or did everyone start hearing Sir Mix-a-lot when they saw the top-view?

+1. Some people need to carry stuff with them, but still want to ride a great bike. At least its color-matched, not leather with fringe and tassles.
I have to admit I don't really see a problem. My 848 is the only bike I have and it would be great to be able to use it for some touring without having to carry everything on my back.
I like it. To each his own.

Why even ask such a question? Granted, anyone can do anything they darn well please to any bike but I truly believe if you are going to go that route then do it with an ST or a MTS. Of course YMMV.

All I was saying was the bags aren't my cup of tea. That doesn't make me close minded... does it? I don't really like the color pink, don't like the taste of eggplants, don't care for the Hummer and Toyota line of cars. Am I close minded?

I don't like to go to work but I still do. I don't like sports cars with trailers but it doesn't mean they can't do it. :) I do a lot of things I don't like but I still do them. Wash dishes, pick up my dogs poop, eat my vegetable, or look at a beautiful superbike being turned into a pack mule. But by all means, if it floats your boat, do it. I am just saying it's not my cup of tea.
I guess what I did wrong was "voicing my opinion on a free forum". How ironic.

More fuel capacity and some upright ergos and it'd be the perfect ST. Oh wait? I said that in another thread.

True... I would have say that I tend to want things divided up nicely in their own buckets. Shampoo cleans and conditioner conditions. And when you have the Head & Shoulders that does neither well, I get fired up. Nevertheless, the saddle bags are very well made and look great with the 1098. Just not what I would do if I have a sport bike.

But, back to the bike, I like it. It's redesigned for the rider's desire. Which, is what we all do to our own bikes. Whether it's bling, function, or performance. I do like being able to turn my monster into something a bit more functional and am always looking for ideas. I don't see how owning a superbike would be any different. If that's what someone wants to do with their bike, so be it. It actually flows pretty well.
And, for the Porsche, very functional. I like it.

i understand why you'd wanna have bags, but if you need them, why would you put them on a superbike?
if you can afford a 1098, then buy a second bike, like a monster or mts 620 and put them on.. you won't look quite as confused.
its' sort of like putting a trailer hitch on your testarossa
You lost me, if you can afford a 1098... why do you necessarily also have enough money to buy a 2nd bike? Why are you necessarily guaranteed to have room to store a 2nd bike? Why do you necessarily have spousal permission?
Testarossa cost substantially more than the 18 or so for a 1098, but you are again assuming the testarossa rider has a trailer? What if you are going on a great long ride through the twisties to your favorite lunch place, a scenic overlook, and you packed a picnic? Must the rider sacrifice the fun of a superbike because he wanted to eat lunch? Rather than buy lunch?
while we are whining and complaining about what others choose to do....
the 512 (testarossa) is often not considered a "real rari" by enthusiasts. its what yuppies buy when they ebay ferrari and sort by lowest price!!
now if you said 355 [drool]
(erm, i would be happy with any ferrari for the record)

i hear you bro, but i just can't see carrying lunch if i'm riding the sbk. like i said, ppl may differ, but if you need bags, get a different bike.

I have a 1098 and can not afford a second bike neither would i waste the money on a second one since i can only ride 1 at a time. Just because i can afford a 1098 does not mean i can afford a 2nd bike. Now if i never bought the 1098 and got a CBR instead than 2 bikes would be a reality. I regularly ride with a cortech sport tailbag for almost anything. Especially on a sunday ride considering some of those trips can be 500miles or more. I don't see the big deal about the bags if you wanted to take your bike cross country it is a great idea. I want to ride mine cross country at one point personally and see this as a viable option that actually looks REALLY good.
And, after the cross country ride, you could, the next weekend, do a trackday on the bike, and have a lot of fun. Whereas the fun might be significantly less on a Sport-Tourer.
I can't imagine doing a cross-country on a bike designed for the track.. the ergos would kill me. I can ride an sbk for a few hours, then need to stop for a while -- not conducive to cross country riding.
maybe you can put fringe bags on it too, that would really drive home the point..

Granted on the 1098 you do stop every 100miles or so due to the range which is about a 10minute break to gas up, but i really don't find an issue riding it all day. The next day i'm spent though....and no i will not put bags with fringes on my bike thats just silly!

Dood - you gotta check it out. It's the perfect thing for shipboard use. Having to travel to and from the shower area, it helps to bring the minimum required. Plus, I can keep a spare bottle in my rack and not have to keep spare shave cream, shampoo, soap, and conditioner (although, I admit, I don't really use conditioner). It really does work well. And, at less than $5 a bottle, it doesn't put much of a dent in the wallet. I pick mine up from drugstore.com (they deliver to FPO addresses).

We were issued a bar of no-name soap for body and hair (what little you had). If you spent more than 3 minutes in the shower, everyone assumed you were jerking off or trolling.
