Title: Hmm... Fabrication?
Post by: SR1K_Femme on April 01, 2009, 04:09:14 PM
Who here is well let's say handy with 'modding'?  I have an idea to make some shorty turn signals work on with keeping the ability to use my front wind screen on my bike.  But wouldn't mind some hand holding so as NOT to make the beast with two backs up my electical/bike.

Takers??  Lol

You bet.  Whaddya have in mind?

Do you want to install aftermarket ones or just mangle up the stock ones?  [moto]

Kind of both actually.  I want to keep the stock (spacers) from the turn signals, but wire the aftermarkets through so as to keep the mount for the windscreen.  I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be complicated, but wouldn't mind having back up from someone who has SOME knowledge of the electrical system.  Lol

Well it happens when I have a  partner in crime.  Lol.

Dang Tailgunner... Um, I can't make promises, but I will TRY to at least not be the FIRST to point and laugh.  How does that sound?  ;)

I like the laughter, so'kay  :)

On your subject here, I have converted from stock to aftermarket turn indicators and did the fairly simple task myself. Certainly I would assist you if you want. Or I could hold Johnny's beer while he crawls under the bike  [cheeky]

Grab those from the Chuckster, Femme. He lives out there in the big woods by you. We don't want that cheap strobe action.

Good point Neikos   [thumbsup]

I should be home by 4:30 if that works.  If not let me know and I'll ask Wifezilla if she wouldn't mind greeting you at the door and handing them over - or if she can't determine what they look like letting you in the garage so you can.

Call my cell.  I'm in and out of meetings and don't know next when I'll be online to check here.

Sabrina wasn't going to head over till around 6pm. And Sabrin, no pressure, if things don't jive for tonight we'll get it done soon enough my friend.

I want to go thru Chuck's garage while he's not there!  ;)

We'll see if the weather cooperates.  Worst case, would it be possible to store my bike over night, and i could pick it up before swap meet on Sat? :)

You know if you announce potential scrounging, Chuck 'may' lock the garage from now on. lol

I just found out the pumpkin wine is re-fermenting in the bottle so I'm now making pumpkin champagne!

What is this swap meat you speak of?

It's auto, hordes of old car parts that fill the Expo Center and even cover Maurice's race track... a guy could probably walk 15 miles in one day to cover it all. It's an anual event.

Hell yeah you can woman, no problem, I'll even trade ya forks if'n ya want  :)

Hey T-gunner,

If you read this, send me a txt or email with your house addy so I can find you on googlemaps.  I haven't been to your house before.

Is this thing happening tonight?  I had a crummy day at work today I might even drink at least 2 whole beers tonight.

Good thing we're not doing this at Mo's cuz he has like 42 motorcycles in his garage . . .  [roll]

More importantly he has GIN . . .  :o

Not a big fan of gin.  Always thought it was kind of like drinking denatured alkyhol . . .

Hmm.  But gin goes into a lot of mixed drinks.  I must consult my Bartender's Wheel of Mixology.  It's the coolest recipe reference ever.  It's old; it's BI (Before Internet).

Back in a few with some gin recipes . . .

Not tonight... didn't realized he lived over in Clackamas area and the weather has been iffy all day.  Not too mention that wind bringing in our warm happy weather makes the wind chill that much worse. :(

Alas they are stock.  Wow do they really look that good?!  Lol

If your serious about coring them, i got all the tools youll need if you decide to do it. (Rivet gun, rivets, drill, metal cutting bits, dremel (have to get more cutting disks, i might have more) hammers. best to have billy cut them back with the metal cutting saw hes got. You want a good clean cut. Biggest pain in the ass is cutting the welds that hold the cap in place, and the welds holding the insert in the cap. Then banging the hell out of the insert until it pops out. Once thats done, you just drill the holes then use the rivet gun to put rivets in to hold the end cap in.  Then you paint them black if you want with some high temp paint.

chuck - You fabricate the tools you need to finish the job? Get any ride in?

Nah, I continued to use the punches and wrench got everything back on looked good . . . lowered her and the stem poked up.  Still about 1/4" off.

Tried putting the handlebar, controls, etc on and being 1/4" the cables wouldn't reach.

Pretty much stuck with a 1/2 assembled front end and a major case of frustration.

I did find the right tool on eBay for $19 bucks including shipping.  It left Wisconsin or some such place this morning so I'm trying to decide if I tear it all down a 4th time or just let it all go and have you swing by to trailer it to a pro . . .

Don't forget... all us yahoos with trailers will be doing the racing thing Wed - Saturday.

She's not expected until the 14th.  Not sure an early delivery would be appreciated.  I was gonna ask what his thoughts were before asking someone with a trailer if they wanted to go out for drinks  ;)

Chuck,  you can do it.  You've gone this far, finish the job, don't give up.  These guys here will help you.

You will feel much better when it's done than writing a check.

I would not even try to do something like that, so I'm rooting for you.  [bow_down]
