Title: Forks! Would an 06 749S forks bolt up to a S2R800?
Post by: Charlief on April 08, 2009, 08:56:10 PM
I know the 748 had a different diameter tube...  did that change with the 749?

My other concern would be the length.

Thanks for the info.

IIRC you would still have to bore your top and shim the bottom, and they are an inch longer

Thats what I thought...  I knew that was the case for the 748.

The longer length I can deal with.  Maybe I'll just stick with the original search then..... ST* or S2R100 forks.

I'm just starting on the SBK fork swap, and what I've learned (and hope is accurate) is that 1997-2002 748/916/996 Showa forks (53mm diameter) have the 25mm axle of your S2R 800 and my M800, and the caliper bolt spacing is correct at 65mm.  I believe that there are no brake rotor issues (spacers) to worry about, and the rotor diameter of the M800 is the same as the SBKs at 320mm.  Boring/shimming the top/bottom triples and handlebar interference are the other factors.
