that's a huuuge front rotor.  i don't think i've ever seen one quite like that.  seems like a good idea.

it's a good looking bike (for someone else)

Nothing wrong with it.  I was very close to buying an XB when I came across a great deal on a Monster.  I almost bought the XB12STT...

Not a fan of the number plates, but it combined the best(IMHO) of the Lightning and the Ulyssess...

But I prefer the Chery Bomb Trans-lucid...

or the Hero Blue...

I test rode the TT...Very FUN...Short Wheelbase, Very Torquey...and another thing is you don't see many of them on the road, they are kind of unique like our Monsters...MAJOR Downfall..you have to wade through the leather clad weekend warriors at your local H-D dealership to even see one, and then no one at the dealership seems slightly interested in selling them or servicing them!!!  But it is anything like my old Sportster, maintenance is simple and can be done by almost anyone....

I can't remember exactly which model I test rode last fall.

I was unimpressed with the Rotax powerplant.  I've ridden Aprilia RSV's before, so I was hoping for power delivery similar to that.  Not sure how Buell was able to eff it up like they did.

I also noticed a lot of chassis flex under power (when you finally got into it's powerband, that it).  Very unsettling.

I really don't like the translucent plastics at all....on the other hand I bet their frames don't expand and warp when they hold gasoline like the monsters and sport classics.

If it had the Rotax engine, it was not one of these bikes....The Rotax is in the 1125R and 1125CR..both with the ugly side pods for the radiators.  These are XB Lightnings with the Harley built sportster engines....may feel a lot different than the liquid cooled Rotax??

Your best cure for this ailment may be to go ride one. Preferrably one with some miles on it because they shake, rattle and buzz just like their Harley cousins.

I rode a demo XB12 a few years ago with 8k kms on it. At idle the mirrors vibrated so much they were useless. The buzz through the bars had my hands numb in no time. Shifted like junk. Heat from the motor was enough to cook an egg. The translucent plastics look really cheap close up. It did turn in nice and quick. The brakes were smooth and powerful. Torque-y motor was good but by no means exceptional. I was very unimpressed with that bike after riding it.

i agree... ride one.. and you wont be very impressed.  but if you still like it after that, ship your duc to me and once i've gotten the title in my name, you can spend the rest of your days in a psych ward

I've seen the red one in person and was impressed by the look. As far as performance,  ???
Granted, my buddy just crashed into me and the Buell stopped to help. Maybe it was the adrenaline...

I totally agree here... should have added a smilie or two to my critique above. Everyone's entitled to like whatever they want; exercise your freedom to choose. ;) As my mother always said, "that's why there's chocolate and vanilla". If the Buell turns yer crank that's cool with me.

I test rode a Ulysses last week at our local Harley open house.  Got it straight up and down in second at about 50 or so (they didn't like that).   I believe its the same engine as the XB12, and it's not a Rotax.  It's Harley, or Harley based, anyway, I think Eric Buell does something different to the engines, it's a bunch faster than a Sportster.  But it reminded me of an old Triumph that I used to have, a Bonneville, and not it a good way.  At idle the front wheel does this in and out little dance, the bars, mirrors and hand guards shake all over the place, and it's not very fast.  I suggest you ride one if you are thinking of buying one.  The Rotax engine in the 1125 is supposedly far superior to the Harley/Buell 1200.  I used to have a ATK/Rotax dirtbike, it was a single, but very well built.   And reliable, I would assume the 1125 would be, too.

Disturbed though I obviously am, I'm not so psychotic that I'm in any danger of actually wanting to own one of 'em......  Just think it looks cool, that's all.  I'll keep taking the medication....  ;)

I'm waiting for someone to throw in LED chistmas tree lights rubber brain in that bubble. :-\
Shame to hear its not such a good bike, especailly with the new Rotax.

As others have said, they look ok in the showroom, but those clear plastics start looking bad, quickly. Especially if it's had petrol spilled on it.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200. You head straight to the "Head mechanic" . That Buell is just wrong.

Ride what you like, screw the haters.

I've enjoyed every Buell I've ridden, despite the quirks. They're a hoot. In fact, right now I'm considering buying an immaculate, earlier tube-frame one that's got a totally built 88-inch engine in it.  [evil]

And for reference, a buddy's stock '99 1200 would spank the bejeezus out of my old M900.....and didn't require a valve check or timing belts every time you looked at it.

There are things I like about it...

I like the exhaust routing. Wish there was a way to work that on mine, but the Exbox or boomtubes seem the only options.

I like... I like that I don't have one.

Like others here, I think the older Buell bikes look better than these.

Those arn't bad.  Btw those of you talking about the fuel tank, its for show buell's have their fuel in the frame.  I'm not a big fan of the clear plastique either but thats what paint is for.  They do turn quick, just wish they had more powa although I wish my m900 had more powa too : )  Which is why I'll be getting a streetfighter soon, that or a 1198 havn't decided yet.  Hrm or i could just get a s4rs decisions decisions hahah

I was working for a band for a couple years, and Buell gave them each a free bike. The blue one was my favorite. Whenever they turned them off a fan turned on, for some reason I don't like that.
