YELLOW is now available for those who had been asking. two versions in fact.
anyone get a price on the kit? I bet that will take away the excitement for most of us.
that dark blue and darker red is sweet!!
this is really cool! [thumbsup]
if this was around when i got my bike, it might be orange
If Ducati does this right, they will have an exchange program. Dealers can stock "X" amount of every color an when you buy, you get to choose.
really? well, i like the dark, and its been over a month oh well. kind of neat i guess.
Corse SB in Saukville, WI (the only WI dealer) told me $800 for a full set (tank, fender, cowl).
So, now I need to hit the powerball and get an 1100s with all the colors, I'd even show off purple every now and again when in a metrosexual mood.
I clicked on the 'how to get it' link, and the text actually uses the term 'configurator' to determine the color you want. I think they might have stolen that term from somewhere....
Now only if I could remember where I saw that term... [roll]
Duck-stew i'm lost.
From the link in the OP, click on 'how to get it'. In the first sentence of the third paragraph Ducati uses the term 'configurator'. A term coined here on the DMF (actually originally on the old DML).

Just another incidence of Ducati 'borrowing' from the community is all. I don't mind, but it's just a little obvious this time.
Nice colors. would be nice to switch colors sometimes. for day or two... great idea....
Ducati is a leader in forward thinking, an innovator, leader amongst men.... love my Duc!
I'm just a follower? :-\

haha..........noticed that too.
i dig the canary yellow BTW. thats what color i painted my old FJ40
in fact..........maybe that is the color for the metal tank i have been sitting on?
Man...the evil marketing geniuses at ducati sure know how to keep your cash flowing. Good thing I still think pearl looks the best.
by the way...i dont think that's a 2nd yellow...that oro puro is GOLD my friend...how many of you feel fabulous enough to rock that?
If i had to choose one, id go with the yellow.

The general term has been broadly used in facilitating mass customization, though perhaps not applied to Ducati sales in particular before.

For $800 you could get all the componants custom painted and probably get a little artistry thrown in
the kit is nice and all but...(threadjack)
as an "official" monster site i don't see any of the 4 valver's, like the tri-color or any older monsters... :(
are the 4 valver's not considered a "monster" or is this just another sign of a ducati demographic?

I think Ducati is just trying to offer more choice in (factory) customization for their current model. I don't think they are intentionally snubbing 4 valver's....I just think they realize there is already a HUGE selection of aftermarket goodies for the older models.
There are no 4-valve Monsters anymore. The only 4-valve naked Ducati is the StreetFighter...

+1 my friend! i do love the 1100 silver, but jeez orange would have been the color. or maybe yellow??
aagh
after i get those new rearsets (when and from who?), a 14T, levers, headlight?, grips, sprocket cover and better riding gear, i may actually buy myself a new color!
very cool [thumbsup]

hmmm, interesting, i had no idea, thanks for the info Nakid!
so 2008 was the last year of the 4 valve monster huh? kind of sad IMHO.
Yup. Only current "Monsters" now are the 696 and 1100. The 4-valver Monster is the Streetfighter (based off of a Naked 1098)...
so sad :(
streetfighter's a whole other beast which is growing on me.
i guess i'm feeling a bit nostalgic...
that was a short run; 2002 to 2008.
maybe not enough sales to continue production.
so, if we want the powerr the plan now is we have to buy into a whole new concept but with the 1098 engine.
is the 1100 not powerful enough?
i think for some people it's not.
the 1100S has 95HP/75.9Nm vs my Foggy's 110HP/92Nm
compression's 10.7:1 vs 11:1
sorry for the threadjack folks.
thanks for putting up with it... :-*

try this (http://ozmonster.org/configurators/) [thumbsup]
was thinking the red frame would look good with the light blue body.
also, wonder if the Streetfighter will be made available with the 848 motor? or would that cut into the 1100 territory too much?

Why does this concept conjure up images of iPod Nano? I guess they think alike out there in Cupertino. [laugh]

i wonder when the first ones will hit the streets. great concept. if i could mix/match, i might be tempted to do blue and gold, except for my red frame.
Go Bears (Univ. of CA, Berzerkeley)
in the meantime, i like mine just fine in Ducati red - thank you very much.
well a tricolore kit would be an easy addition to that line up

It needs a matte black and the Pearl in that line up.
I love the orange but only need the tank skins and rear cowl for my 1100S. I notice the black framed bikes are used to demo them which is exactly why I bought a black framed bike. I had alread envision my bike in orange as I have a KTM dirtbike and I always loved the orange with black. I wonder how the orange will look with the gold forks and rims?
my god..... its so beutifull.

i think the red frame with light blue would look awesome. and of course they red with silver is an 1100 option already. red with dark blue maybe. you could go christmasy and get the dark green and red for the festive mood. coral snake look. red, yellow and black!

all I can say is.....itsa conspiracy by DNA to take Nate (ducpainter) out of a job....I say we kick them in the ding ding for messin with Nate's business!
not really. if you think about it. and they only have the black frames available in the future... then you will make the money on the custom frame jobs... which are much more expensive considering the mechanical side of it. PLUS, colors are only part of the customizining process.. you can always sharpie them ;)

So my 2009 will be a classic?
I gotta admit - the more I think about this concept, the better I like it. I think Ducati is really onto something with the easily-swappable (is 'swappable' a word?) colored body panels.
The ability to swap out body panels on a whim (I'm feeling "blue" today... ;D) is a really cool idea. I suspect that other OEMs are going to be watching closely and imitating this design.
Here's a bunch of individual pictures too.

They had a collection of custom tanks several years ago. One of them being the desmo valves. I wasn't a fan.
The orange I had envisioned had a light gold fleck or vivid orange pearl and replacing the centre tank covers with carbon fibre peaces. I would love to swap the Hypermotards black rims also. While at it I'd add a CF seat cowl.

i do think just getting your bike painted would be way cheaper, but, looking at the prices of all those panels alone! this is cheaper at $800! the bikini fairing alone is what, $400?
I think to keep this a viable option they would have to price this around 1K for everything. If it came out to be 2K most people will say F' that.

I don't know about $1k. You can buy a 2nd 696 for 8k! Why would you spend 15% of that price on a color? I am thinking more like $500 or less for this to "work".
In other words, I am not too impressed with this plan. It is a big overhead to Ducati with no gain in my opinion. Maybe it will catch on for riders that have a wreck and want to fix their bike cosmetics cheaper and/or change colors?

Or, if the cops are on the lookout for a red monster, and you're now on a yellow one....
you guys, read the thread from the beginning. the prices are 499 euro for all colors except the silver and gold which are 599 euro. euro rate is about .76 euro to the dollar. or @650 dollars and 788 dollars.
